Zakharchenko: Kiev’s DMZ proposals suggest mental illness

21st of April, 2015. Donetsk People’s Republic, Novorossiya.

Proposals put forward by the Ukrainian authorities on the demilitarisation of certain DPR sectors suggest that they suffer from mental illness, the head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko said at a meeting of the DPR local officials.

“I gave the Ukrainian military my answer: outbreaks of schizophrenia occur in the spring and autumn, so, dear colleagues, go get treated. We won’t create the demilitarized zone proposed by them. Schizophrenia amongst the Ukrainian military appears to be a very contagious disease, so, I asked them to see a therapist,” – Alexander Zakharchenko said.

Zakharchenko was reacting, in particular, to Kiev’s proposals on the demilitarisation of the area around Shirokino. The Ukrainian army actually demanded that the DPR army withdraw deep into the DPR whilst the Ukrainian forces stayed at their current positions.

Shirokino is in a no-man’s land between junta-occupied Mariupol and DPR-controlled Novoazovsk; it’s one of the tensest parts of the line of contact. The Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the ceasefire registered many provocations here on the part of the Ukrainian forces.
