“Illegal and immoral act of aggression”

by Vaska

In its latest retrospective piece on Iraq and the US policy in the Arab world, Truthout cites Ray McGovern, a former CIA analyst with 27 years in the organization, and now member of the Steering Group of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, calling for George W. Bush and Tony Blair to face trial for the war of aggression they led against Iraq.

While this remains most unlikely, as there is currently no international body that would so much as dare issue arrest warrants for any Western political leader regardless of the crimes committed, it is significant that there are now prominent individuals from inside the USA itself – even among those who’ve spent their entire careers in civil service, as both McGovern and Paul Craig Roberts, also interviewed for this Truthout piece did – who see the neocon foreign policy the US has pursued for the past quarter of a century as ethically intolerable and unworthy of support.

Since such views are largely if not entirely blacked out from the mainstream media — in acts of invisible censorship by which the corporate military-industrial complex and its willing servants in both government and the press manipulate and shape the public opinion in the West — it is also unlikely that they will get the serious airing they deserve or the opportunity to intervene in the political discourse of the Empire.

For more details on the analyses offered by McGovern, Craig Roberts, and Anas Altikriti, Truthout–Iraq a war crime pure and simple.
