Sputnik France reports:

The German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung accuses Western leaders of being ready to support Moscow in the conflict that is ravaging eastern Ukraine.

In his article “The nightmare of Ukrainian politicians”, the journalist Konrad Schuller recalls that a month ago, Angela Merkel and Hollande spoke by telephone with the president of the Supreme Rada (Ukrainian parliament) Vladimir Grossman and asked him to add provisions benefiting Russia to the project of constitutional reform.

“The nightmare of Ukrainian politicians has approximately as follows: the West, worn by crises, wars and the influx of migrants, decides to get rid of at least one household hazard and gets along with Moscow behind the curtain. It agreed to progressively reduce its support to Ukraine and to implicitly recognize the hegemony of Russia in the territories she claims,” writes Konrad Schuller. In exchange, President Vladimir Putin should assist in other regions: Syria, Iran, North Korea.

Better, says the journalist, besides Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel, the need to amend the Constitution of Ukraine was recognized by the Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland. The latter considers in particular that the amendments would help to “find a solution to the conflict in Donbass”.

These positions of Western leaders provoked the ire of the Vice President of the Supreme Rada, Syroid Oksana, who has accused Merkel and Hollande of pushing Mr. Grossman to propose amendments “only serving the interests of Russia“.

The opinion of Ms. Syroid is shared by many representatives of the pro-Western camp in Ukraine “, which causes the risk of a split in the supporters of the European choice of Kiev, concludes Konrad Schuller.
