Anonymous can take down 5,000 ISIS twitter accounts – but Twitter can’t?

from RT

Hacktivist group Anonymous has reported that more than 5,500 Twitter accounts belonging to Islamic State have been taken down. It comes after the collective declared a “total war” on the militant group following the Paris attacks.

Tweeting from its #OpParis account, Anonymous stated: “We report that more than 5500 Twitter account (sic) of #ISIS are now #down! #OpParis #Anonymous #ExpectUS.”

[….]

ISIS responded to Anonymous’ video on Monday, calling the hacktivist group “idiots” and offering guidance of ISIS supporters to protect against cyber-attacks.

However, as of Monday, 900 ISIS-related Twitter accounts had already been suspended after Anonymous posted a list of them online.

On Monday, Anonymous said in its video that “the French people are strong than you and will come out of this atrocity even stronger.”

This is not the first time Anonymous has used its skills against ISIS. This year, the group has dismantled some 149 ISIS-linked websites, according to a recent report in Foreign Policy.

The article doesn’t ask why Twitter can’t do what Anonymous alleges it is doing. Or how ISIS has any active social media accounts at all. Maybe RT should remind itself of its own tagline. As Corbyn is pilloried for merely expressing reservation over a domestic “shoot-to-kill” policy against “terrorists” (no one else of course, just them), and as Cameron predictably asks for approval for more airstrike against “ISIS”, there never was there greater need to “question more.”

The talk of western co-operation with Russia over ISIS might be assuaging some doubts right now, but we’d be fools to imagine this is much more than temporary expediency. Once “our boys” are in there in even greater numbers, maybe even including troops on the ground, it’s anyone’s guess what turn events could take. Let’s hope Putin isn’t too lulled by the new “spirit of co-operation.” These are dangerous times.

The UK have been part of the coalition in Iraq and they have done nothing.
They are purely doing this in a token way as they recognise they can win browny points with the public who actually support getting rid of ISIL.

The creators of ISIL did there job too well in creating this organisation that the world now fears and hates.

The UK will not put boots on the ground as there isnt any. And any airstrikes will be token
I will start to worry if this becomes a NATO mission. I.e Yugoslavia

Don’t know how to tell U this but #ISIS DOESN’T HAVE 5k twitter accts So who ARE the feds fucking w besides ISIS? Anon CANNOT TOUCH twitter’s servers so it must B a #SnitchJacket job. EZ b/c Anon IS the feds I’m waiing for the anonfeds to take out the DHS’ BFFs cloudflare, which hosts dozens of ISIS chatrooms and other illegal ops. Personally, I think Anon peeps iz taking creditz for Twitter finally taking suspected accounts offline.

About the Department of Homeland Secuirty’s BFFs Cloudflare, who seem immune to federal scrutiny about their dealing with ISIS and other terror/criminal orgs

” “…two of ISIS’ top three online chat forums — including the notorious Alplatformmedia.com — are currently guarded by CloudFlare. Without such protection from CloudFlare, these sites would almost certainly succumb to the same relentless online attacks that have completely collapsed several major jihadi web forums over the past two years. In 2013, after CloudFlare was contacted by journalists over allegations that their service was providing protection to terrorist websites, the company’s CEO Matthew Prince published a full explanation of their policy in this regard.

According to Prince, it would not “be right for us to monitor the content that flows through our network and make determinations on what is and what is not politically appropriate.”

Is it just me that thinks the entire world needs to grow the fuck up and stop looking for excitement?

I really despair at humanities obsession with being gung-ho. We only have one life each and its fragile and gone in the blink of an eye.

Today I’m watching a war on Syria about to take place just as it did on Iraq, I’m watching us becoming the battlefield for an elite game of chess and I’m watching as normal people – the true cannon fodder sing alone for their own demise.

Sheesh.

Be fair, now they are all posing with the French flag and flooding the internet with those “All you need to know about the real, ultimate, incontrovertible truth of the past present and future human conflicts in 3 digestible, iphone friendly minutes of video with the hippest, heartwarming and socially conscious animations”. I actually never saw people so involved, and it would probably last until tomorrow morning.

I seem to have liked my own comment! Not deliberately I promise!

I love that off-G’ers can’t even post on CIF without a pre-spiking. Grrrrrf.
