Guardian Watch 17/12/2015

from Seemorerocks

It’s an old habit that is difficult to throw off.

I have been accustomed, during my life (or at least for the last quarter-centrury) to rely on that solid, reliable representative of serious journalism, the Guardian.

So as part of this ritual I checked the Guardian for signs of the stories that interest me, or concern me:

  • The invasion of Iraq by Turkey and the further developments
  • The alleged bombing by NATO/US of Syrian army forces
  • The emergency meeting of Kerry with Lavrov and Putin in Moscow
  • Revelations by a Turkish MP of sarin gas being supplied to al-Qaeda through Turkey from Europe and the threats of arrest of the MP

I might expect a different slant on this from the Russian, Middle Eastern and alternative media.

But my search was in vain.

On looking through the Guardian’s website this is what I found today:

First there was this very serious piece from Barnaul in western Siberia (which they managed to misspell in the sub -headline)

And that other august British institution, the British Medical Journal, it seems, has been doing groundbreaking research into Vladimir Putin’s ‘peculiar walk’

putinswalk

Oh, well, as far as the Guardian is concerned I needn’t worry about World War III, at least until the Evildoer commits his next misdeed.

While things are going his way we are spared any discussion.

I was amused by shaun waker’s hysterical minute by minute write up of Putin’s presser and how the evildoer had finally admitted the presence of Russian military in Ukraine, quote
““We never said there were not people there who were working on certain issues, including in the military sphere, but this does not mean there were regular Russian forces there,” he said. “Feel the difference.”.”
Indeed any normal person would feel the difference, I would bet every country on both sides has people working in the field that could fall into that description, but not Wa
ker who breathlessly demanded:
“What about the clear evidence that there have been injections of regular Russian troops at key moments?”.
Naturally ‘clear evidence’ is something Wa*ker has never demonstrated, merely smeared at. Though he once claimed that an old Ukrainian milkmaid had told him Russian troops had passed her house. Evidence that is actually about as clear as milk.

As for the BMJ story about Putin’s gait, I suspect that was a lighthearted Christmas spoof that the Guardian swooped on as being genuine. It really is the most pathetic rag these days. And I say that as a native Mancunian who has been reading it since first picking it up at the local library in the mid 60s as a 10 year old.

an old Ukrainian milkmaid had told him Russian troops had passed her house… in 1945 on their way to Berlin probably?

The Guardian is a bit of a mess, in terms of journalism. More dumb comment than real news, it seems. And the Independent is simply a comic.

There’s nothing much out there for me any more.

I never thought that the day would come when The Guardian would feature less informative news than either Rolling Stone magazine or an issue of Marie Claire.

Has the team of European Neurologists ventured as far as across the pond to determine how John Wayne came by his peculiar walk, surely that would be required reading in the British Medical Journey. Of course they might discover that John “Marion” Wayne also did undercover work for the CIA before he didn’t become an actor. I take it the Guardian filled their pages with utter tripe and bilge which over the last few years since their beloved War Criminal Blair left the scene, is all they can find to print?
Still you can find excellent work by John Pilger and Seamus Milne elsewhere which is usually news worthy and relevant.

Hate to tell you that Seamus Milne has taken a year’s leave from The Guardian to be Jeremy Corbyn’s communications director for the British Labour Party. He’ll be sorely missed. And for every excellent article by John Pilger, there’ll be ten dud ones from other people, for “balance” as you can expect.

Real Journalists like John Pilger are a very rare & endangered species in the West, in fact almost extinct.

Luke Harding & Shaun Walker killed The Guardian for anyone with a brain RIP.

Many years ago it was said the West would become like the USSR & the USSR (now Russia + CIS) would become like the West but in fact that was wrong as what the West has become is an obscenity in Morals for the Elite & the USSR was never like that; also in Surveillance terms the USSR couldn’t hold a candle to NSA/GCHQ.
