Blaming Putin after BREXIT John Batchelor interviews Stephen F. Cohen, NYU, Princeton University, EastWestAccord.com

“Brexit is a win for Putin,” announced Michael McFaul, a former U.S. ambassador to Russia. Writing in The Washington Post, McFaul said: “Putin, of course, did not cause the Brexit vote, but he and his foreign policy objectives stand to gain enormously from it.”

Stephen Cohen analyzes Russian press debates on the UK referendum and the US and EU reactions to Brexit.

I don’t think UK Brexiteers thought for two ticks about whether Putin would benefit or not. The only question they would have there is whether Putin would become a sovereign threat to continued independence of the UK or not. Whether he would change the habits of 200+ years of Russian leadership in not invading countries as a first strike.
Brexiteers are interested in whether the interests of UK citizens would be enhanced. If that was to a small degree achieved through greater profitable bilateral trade with Russia, so be it. But I don’t think most Brexiteers were gagging to become Putin’s mistress-in-arms you know.
As for Europeans, if they find that the EU is destabilised so much that Putin can extract advantage, perhaps they will cosy up to the Middle Eastern sheikhs to build alternative oil/gas pipelines to cut the Russians out? It’s not threatening war is it? It’s just saying: ‘push us too hard and we’ll buy elsewhere’. Nothing Mr Putin could complain about as the big grown up everyone knows he is….
The truth is that Brexit represents the UK voter blowing a big raspberry at Barack Obama and US policy makers who expect the UK to do what it’s told where foreign policy is concerned. Being too controlling to take that raspberry on the chin and say: ‘uh oh, maybe we need a change of approach’, they blame big bad Vladi.
Actually, the UK has been cosying up to Beijing far more than Moscow the past decade.

McFaul is one of those diplo-thugs the USA unleashes n target countries to foment social discord and civil war. Like Robert Ford, the death-squad organiser of the ‘Salvador Option’, under Negroponte in Iraq, and Marshall Green who handed Suharto’s death-squads hit-lists prepared by the CIA, during the 1965 massacres. He later oversaw the coup in Australia that ousted Gough Whitlam in 1975.
