    I think KAL007 was probably just an unfortunate sequence of events that was largely the product of US arrogance and recklessness.

    The Korean airliner was a standard Boeing 707. For a long time prior to this, the US had been provocatively flying spy planes deep into Soviet air space in Siberia. This was done for intelligence gathering, to see how long it took to scramble Soviet fighters, radio and radar frequencies and so forth. The aircraft they were using for this was basically just a militarised version of the same civilian airliner, with all the seats stripped out and replaced by banks of electronic equipment.

    The Soviet Union complained about this and threatened to shoot them down. This was ignored by the US. So when the Korean airliner went deep into Siberian airspace with its transponder turned off, and failed to respond to attempts to contact it, the Soviet side assumed it was another US spy plane, and lost patience. “It’s those bloody Americans again. We’ve warned them before. Shoot the f*cker down!” The rest is history.

    Say what you like about the Soviet Union, but they never flew Russian air force spy planes into western airspace above the US or UK. The US (and Britain) did so for decades. The Russians considered this an act of war. The US air force flew regular reconnaissance missions right across the length of Russia, taking off in Japan and landing in Norway. There was the U2 shoot down in 1960. Many people assume that these flights came to an end with the development of spy satellites, but this is not the case. Britain was heavily involved throughout the 1950s. State of the art (for the time) RAF Canberra reconnaissance aircraft flew missions deep inside Russia from the Middle East. Night after night, Stalingrad was lit up like a Christmas tree as hundreds of anti aircraft guns tried to shoot down the high flying aircraft.

    Hundreds of aircrew (I think it was something like 300) were lost in these operations over the years. What happened to them is still a mystery. Hundreds of men’s lives were lost and families were bereaved for the sake of Cold War games. The same thing happened at sea. A Russian and a French submarine were lost in the Mediterranean. Apparently they were playing games of underwater chicken with each other and collided. A US warship deliberately sailed into Russian territorial waters in the Black Sea and refused to respond when warned to leave. A much smaller Russian warship deliberately rammed the US vessel to physically drive it out. Of course incidents like this are now a daily occurrence in the Baltic and Black Sea, in the air, at sea, and on land. 10,000 US troops drove up and down the borders of the Baltic countries with Russia in 1,000 tanks and vehicles, at times just a few yards from Russian territory, through communities of Russian heritage.

    When a US warship shot down an Iranian Airbus just a couple of years after KAL007, with the loss of 300 pilgrims travelling to Mecca, including a large number of children, the US shrugged it off as a trivial incident of no importance. They did not offer any apology or condolences or expression of regret. The captain of the US warship was awarded a medal. The warship was in Iranian territorial waters at the time. The US lied about this and were later forced to admit they had lied. You can imagine what would have happened if the boot had been on the other foot, if a US airliner had been shot down by Iran.

    It is very unlikely that Libya was responsible for the Lockerbie bomb. This was probably a case of Iran biding its time and fulfilling its Islamic duty to take revenge for its citizens killed on pilgrimage.

    The Truth is Out There.
    Somebody needs to ask Boeing whether or not they have installed telemetry on board their modern aircraft and who has access to it apart from Boeing Engineers?
    Boeing almost certainly know why the first jet crashed and were receiving in-flight telemetrics in real time during it’s flight.
    Boeing needs to come clean and tell the public exactly what electronics their modern aircraft have on board because any such electronics can be hacked – potentially nobody is safe until we know.

    So many ‘important’ people have died in plane crashes. Even during the last Brazilian election campaign a contender of the tropical Trump Bolsonaro died in a plane crash. Maybe Olof Palme refused to fly and that’s why it happened as it did?

    Iranians would so much have liked to buy the 737 Max 8 but they were not allowed to. Could the 2 planes which came down have been equipped with some kind of sabotage that was meant for the Iranians and they forgot to take it out for the Indonesians and Ethiopians? I found that a breathtaking THEORY and could not resist bringing it up.

      In that case, they wouldn’t bother with sabotage, they would just shoot them down, like they did with TWO Malaysian Airlines Boeing-777s in one year.

      That’s a very interesting point. It’s entirely feasible. The US has specialized in aircraft/ helicopter crash assassinations for years.

      That’s why the “mighty handful” of Coca Cola executives who know that secret recipe are forbidden to fly together.
