DISCUSS: The EU Elections and the “Rise of the Far Right”
The so-called “biggest election year of all time” is progressing nicely. Among others, Russia, India, Mexico are done – while Britain, the US and Iran are yet to come.
Oh, and France now too. But we’ll get to that.
First, the European Union elections are over and done with, and the announced results proclaim the rise of the “far right” all over the continent…except not really.
If you actually look at the results, it’s a swing of ~40 seats total, which isn’t so much when 720 seats were up for grabs (including 14 that hadn’t previously existed).
The end result will be the same as always – two major voting blocks keeping each other in more-or-less stalemate while unelected bureaucrats push the real agenda behind the scenes. Just as the EU machinery was constructed to function.
But that doesn’t stop the story being the scary far-right parties coming to get you.
Nonetheless, French President Emmanuel Macron is apparently so cognizant of the people’s will that the rise in the far-right has forced him – forced him – to call a snap election.
This is totally about respecting the will of the people, and not at all about the captain desperately resigning his commission just before the iceberg hits.
If he loses he’ll be the latest of the Covid-era leaders to enthusiastically grab their coat and powerwalk out the door. A very interesting trend.
Speaking of…
The story unfolding in Belgium is interesting. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo resigned today following his “crushing defeat by the far-right” in Sunday’s general election. And yet Belgium’s EU seats look to have swung to the left-aligned parties. Odd.
It all rather reeks of story over reality. But what do you guys think?

In Latvia, the party that held minister of health during «covid» (Movement For!) finished dead last with 1666 (sic!) votes (0.32%). The rest of covid coalition however received slight majority against the backdrop of low activity (less than 34%).

Spot on, I was so sure we would see some decent shift here in Ireland, especially after the recent referendum but looking at the results, I literally feel sick. Pretty much status quo all the way. I’ve already seen one news update with someone (probably on drugs) hyperventilating on the sheer excitement of the set’s big swing-o-meter and practically orgasming over the CGI map changing colours. It’s pretty embarrassing stuff. I wonder if there’s a single TV watcher who really believes any of this matters. The Big Knobs are doing what they always do i.e. continuing with their plan for “the economy” (their code for the next “bank job” – an appellation that is literally true in more ways than one!) Meanwhile the telly jesters are giving that old razzle dazzle to the punters at home.
My favourite remark on the whole scam remains Rich Hall’s: “It’s like a sign over a porn theatre that says – ‘Under new Management’. Who cares?”
