The fact is, allied nations routinely spy on one another. The Five Eyes alliance – the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand – is the deepest intelligence partnership in existence, and its members still spy on each other. There is no formal “no-spy” agreement preventing them from intercepting one another’s communications. Leaked documents from the 2013 Snowden disclosures revealed that members exploit the arrangement to have partner agencies collect on their own citizens, a Canadian or Australian service being “foreign” to the US can intercept what would otherwise require a domestic warrant. And under the UKUSA “second party” framework, each member reserves the right to unilaterally surveil another member’s citizens, and at times its government, when it judges this to be in its national interest. If spying among allies is not only commonplace but expected, then James spends thirty-eight of his forty minutes on the wrong question. Here James finally asks the right question: what does the establishment gain by reporting this? The press that supposedly never prints anything damaging to the establishment is printing this, which means it now serves someone to print it. At the end, he finds the right tree to bark up. He just can’t see who’s in it.
But even before he gets there, in the middle of those forty minutes, watch the word James reaches for:
“It is part of a coordinated campaign…run by the Israelis…that are infesting every corner of Silicon Valley and every other cyber surveillance operation of note in the world.” — Corbett
“Infesting.” Note the word. The reduction of a people to vermin requiring extermination is not a casual metaphor. It is the precise and historically specific language by which the murder of Jews was once made to sound like sanitation. James, who is scrupulously skeptical of every official narrative, reaches unprompted for a word with one of the bloodiest pedigrees in modern history. That reach is the tell. The skepticism is selective; the instinct underneath it is not.
Only at the conclusion of this dog-bites-man spy story does James indicate he might be emerging from his Pavlovian anti-Israeli framework:
“There could be even greater, grander geopolitical machinations…with regard to the changeover of world order into the new, shiny, multi-culti, multi-polar world order that we’re being stewarded into. Which is to say: the same press that supposedly never reports anything damaging to the establishment may be reporting this precisely because it now serves the establishment to do so. If that’s true, then the anti-Israel turn isn’t truth breaking through the censorship, it’s just censorship changing its bus route.

Corbett’s premise isn’t that the press never prints anything anti-Israel, it’s that it never prints anything damaging to the establishment. He then postulates that the establishment may now want Israel thrown “under the bus.” Those are his words, not mine. I’m just following his own logic one step further than he does. If the establishment can throw Israel under the bus, then the establishment is not Israel. It’s something else, something he never names.
That’s the whole point: not that the press protects Israel, but that Corbett’s own framing implies a power above Israel that the frame on this site has no room for. Not denied. Unthinkable. Change “establishment” to “Israel” and you erase the point Corbett himself is making.
