The head of Ukraine’s Emergency Situations civil service, Sergei Bochkovsky, was detained today for corruption by the SBU [police] during a cabinet meeting, along with his deputy Vasily Stoetsky.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced the launch of a large-scale security operation involving all law enforcement agencies.
“On my behalf and at my command all the power structures of Ukraine began a large-scale security operation. So that armed bandits who killed Ukrainians* do not go unpunished – said the Ukrainian leader, speaking to the leadership of the SBU.”
* “Armed bandits who killed Ukrainians” being likely a reference to a recent event in which members of “Battalion ‘Dnepr-1’, controlled by the [ex-] governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region Igor Kolomoisky” arrived at a checkpoint in Volnovaha “where soldiers of the ATO stopped three trucks with smuggled goods”, a skirmish following in which “one of the National Guards shot the captain of the Security Service of Ukraine Victor Manzika.” The SBU is also accusing head figures of the Dnipropetrovsk regional government of participation in criminal gangs.
