MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/. Ukraine’s National Guard servicemen make money on contractors delivering food to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) across checkpoints, Speaker of the DPR People’s Council Andrei Purgin said.
“A pass of one truck with meat costs 150,000 hryvnias ($7,000) at the National Guard’s checkpoint,” Purgin said. “The National Guard makes tens of millions every day.”
An economic blockade has resulted “in depletion of goods or products and in the increase of prices, while shortages of medications are especially acute” for Donbass people, he said.
In line with the presidential decree issued on November 15, Ukraine’s government suspended payments of all social benefits, including pensions, along with banking services to individuals and enterprises in “certain parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” starting from December 1.
Afterwards, Kiev restricted people’s access to the self-proclaimed republics and then the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service barred vehicles with foodstuffs from entering the DPR and LPR.
