Kiev’s military operation in Donetsk region has damaged over 9,500 facilities, inflicting a total damage of over 2 billion hryvnia (about $100 million), according to a report published by DPR ombudswoman Daria Morozova on May 15.
“As of May 8, 2015, the armed hostilities in the region damaged or destroyed 9,538 infrastructure facilities with damage estimated at over 2 billion hryvnia,” the report said.
The cities of Donetsk and Makeyevka have suffered most, with 6,066 and 1,016 facilities, respectively, either damaged or destroyed, according to the report.
Overall, Kiev’s military operation has destroyed over 5,300 houses, 605 electricity transmission lines, 53 health care facilities and 252 educational establishments in the DPR, the report said.
Thousands have been killed and hundreds of thousands of people have fled Ukraine’s embattled east as a result of clashes between Ukrainian troops and local militias.
