French Canal+ documentary: Ukraine, The Masks of the Revolution

CanalPlusDocUkraine

Screencap from the documentary.

Ukraine’s authorities have urged a French broadcaster to take a documentary titled ‘Masks of Revolution’ off the air. They claim the movie misrepresents Maidan events, and have a list of their own suggestions for what needs to be shown.

Paul Moreira’s “Ukraine: The Masks of the Revolution” was aired by French national TV Canal+ on February 2. Watch the trailer and the documentary in full with English subtitles at the LiveLeak link below it.

I tried, unsucessfully, to raise these disturbing issues and facts with the Guardian, at the time. It was impossible. They, and the truly dreadful Luke Harding, despite their profound ignorance about Ukraine, already knew what was happening there. Crass, simplistic, dogma and prejudice characterised their coverage. They were selling, as in Libya, yet another ‘fairytale’ about a genuine people’s revolution, though one clearly and obviously spearheaded by armed, militant, fascist militiamen determined to topple the government by force. It’s really disturbing that the Guardian, which supposedly is Britain’s leading liberal/left publication, in reality supported a coup carried out by fascists. Yet the Guardian says it never happended. The ghastly massacre in Odessa, never happened. The fascists aren’t armed in Ukraine and on the march. The fascists aren’t a power to be reckoned with. That’s all just Russian propaganda.

The grotesque irony here, is that if anyone is guilty of producing propaganda about events in Ukraine, it’s Luke Harding and the Guardian. The Guardian has really failed on Ukraine and badly misinformed its’ readers. In fact their reporting is getting worse all the time. So much of their coverage is actually the opposite of the truth and distorts reality systematically, is factually wrong and this can be proved rather easily. Something really bad is happening when a liberal newsplatform like the Guardian, which is influential and not just in the UK, lurches so disasterously to the right on foreign policy, so far to the right it deliberately chooses to whitewash a bloody coup and the massacre of helpless civilians in Odessa.
