OffGuardian’s Birthday

February 10th is OffGuardian’s birthday. As of today we are eight years old. That probably doesn’t sound very old, but from this side of the keyboard it feels like most of a lifetime.

Let’s journey back, to the heady days of February 2015 when OffG published its very first article. It reads, in its entirety:

In today’s Guardian article about the wild unpopularity of conscription in Ukraine, Shaun Walker tells us that the eastern Ukrainian resisters ‘appear to have an unlimited supply of weapons and training from Russia’.

In the interest of responsible journalism, would it be possible for Mr Walker to tell us how this information ‘appeared’ to him?

That’s it. That’s the whole thing. It was written by our now-retired editor Systematic. There’s no image, and no comments. It probably reached about five people.

It’s probably hard to imagine for new readers, and hard to remember for veterans, that’s all OffG was meant to be at first. A place for people banned from the Guardian’s comment section to post their responses to the Graun’s hysterical anti-Russia/anti-Syria rhetoric and general neoliberal bullshittery.

Eight years, 6000 articles, 500,000 comments and tens of millions of views later, we’ve broadened that original remit just a little.

It’s quite a thing we’ve built, and I’m including all of you in that “we”. Because it was readers and commenters looking for a home that helped to shape us. A truly independent platform. No sponsors, no contacts, no grants, no NGOs and no control.

Over the years working in alternate media, you come to realise how truly rare it is to be actually free, not beholden to anyone at all. There’s a few of us who can make that claim, but not nearly as many as there should be.

Anyhow. Thanks to you all for reading and supporting – it’s been an interesting and eventful eight-year ride.

Never stop questioning authority. Nobody gets things right all the time and everyone is entitled to their opinion. You bring up important issues, such as the war on agriculture and farmers’ struggles in India and the world, the colonisation of the human body by today’s capitalism and many more. Your compass is clear, your path discovered every day.

Apologies for belatedness.
When I first found OffG some years back my thought was “OMG, I was right all along!”
Every blessing and prosperity to ye all.
Many thanks for your sanity.

Good stuff! Authors and commenters here are not easily hoodwinked by the false dichotomy of left/right politics, corporate and state propaganda or elaborate psy-ops. Powerful people really do conspire, and there is much to learn from independent thinkers even though we do not all agree.

I used to be a newspaper fiend. Guardian, Independent, Le Monde, Corriere, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine. About 10 or 15 years ago they became unbearable, more or less at the same time. Now I read OffG and Th. Meyssan (and Money Circus, of lately). I do not know about an equivalent in German. So this is where we are. A handful of people are keeping journalism alive when an army of ‘journalists’ have whored themselves out to the regime. Hats off to OffG! Danke!

Really? I think the choice of bearable German publications is FAR better! Nachdenkseiten and apolut are really good, don’t you think? A lot more variety than Off Guardian . ( I’m not knocking Off Guardian. I generally like the articles Kit Knightly writes. However it has far fewer articles and is much less ‘ glossy’.

What I meant to say is my first choice of publication would normally be an English language one ( which would include Oz, NZ, SouthAfrica, India, some other African countries where English is the first language..but NOT North American publications because I just don’t like their style of writing)…but there is such a DEARTH of bearable English language publications that I have tried investigating French language and German language publications..and I think Germany is pretty good! I haven’t found anything Austrian ( yet) but there does seem to be a good youtube/Telly channel that I saw Daniel Ganser ( the Swiss historian) on the other day. He is getting banned a- ofcourse like everything else I try to watch/read

…A very happy birthday to alla y’all crazy cats, and wishing you all many, *Many* happy returns yet to come…

…Humble apologies for the tardiness… – I only saw this article yesterday and then spent pretty much the entire rest of the day racking my brains and scoping around online for the source of the following Twitter thread, which I saw recently… (- Turned out it was on Guido Fawkes’ blog, by way of The Daily Sceptic…)

…- Anyhoo, I proffer it to you guys, here and now, as a small but well-deserved birthday gift:… – Please enjoy it as it is intended, in a spirit of *Truly* well-earned, vindicatory schadenfreude (- Which spirit is a bit like myrrh, but with a somewhat sweeter aroma 😉 ):…

There are many battles to be fought and won in 2023. The expressions of gratitude in this thread are beautiful and I concur; Off G helped me survive relapse, near divorce, moving from the place I’d thought I would live the rest of my life, and 2+ years of daily cognitive dissonance as this “revolution from above” that we all knew was coming, arrived. Off G helped us make sense of it all and more concretely take action. My favorite pastime in addition to reading the comments is spotting the entry level alphabet agency workers that come here to shill.

I just donated a small amount. Thought would you show up to an 8 year olds birthday without a little something? “Faith without works is dead “ donate some $£ if you can

¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡

For many of us the last three years on this earth have been a tremendous learning experience, greatly enhanced by the knowledge that we are not alone.

For others, of course, it’s just been three more years of using pots of other people’s money to get everything they want. As with gluttony of any other kind, eventually they’ll choke on it.

‘8’ is (biblically) symbolic of resurrection, or rebirth.

The 8th day follows the Sabbath. There were 8 on Noah’s Ark. Circumcision takes place on the 8th day …

Likewise, OffG’s 8th year coincided with a ‘resurrection’ of the world of sorts, as it re-emerged from its Covid slumber.

So life follows slumber. Work follows rest. Blue skies and sunshine follow storm clouds and rain. Dystopias never last forever. The Roman empire fell. No need to tie one’s colours to the ‘Dystopia forever’ mast.

So celebrate birthdays, yes, and celebrate when dystopias end. Happy Birthday

And thank you, if it was you, for a most insightful article near the beginning of the ‘pandemic’ period. ‘The old lady that swallowed a fly’ really put some puzzle pieces together for me. I had just read Wall St On Parade’s piece you referred to about the trillions pumped into the economy in 2019 and begun looking at that financial angle, but your writing brought it into sharp focus. Much obliged!

And yes, thank you OffGuardian for being a well of sanity in a desert of crazy. Been here since the start and not going anywhere!

Well, an eventful 8 years. I came across Off G around 5 years ago. Ukraine and Syria I think were the main focus and this site has done alot to bring the truth out and gone strength to strength. Im sure those revelations of criminal complicity in murder by Western governments and their puppets in MSM helped many see the BS of Covid from day one. And some great articles and discussions from the last 3 years.

I sense now from numerous independent sites I visit, the truth of the last 3 years and specifically the injections is coming out at last. My prediction for this year – in response to the wake- up we’ll be looking at orchestrated financial crashes, possible bank bail-ins, social unrest and more war.

I see many sites now focusing on the financial risks. The financial angle to the Covid scam is very important to grasp. The sites I visit are Daniella Cambone (Stansfield Research) Catherine Austin- Fitts and some great guests on USA Watchdog.com, Natural News (Mike Adams) JD Rucker. Also The Daily Clout (Naomi Wolf) and Steve Kirsch – great work on injection genocide. Too many other great sites and commentators to mention especially from the science field.

Well done for all the great work here. This has been one of the best UK sites, I think for all rounder coverage.

In Feb-March 2020 I felt I was losing my mind. I had to be the crazy one. Because I was the only (with my wife) to think we were all going in the wrong direction. People close to me were yelling at me saying I needed to get in line with the programme. If I remember well I typed the words “covid” and “overraction” and that’s how I discovered OG.

Thanks you, kept me sane.

Now that you are 8……update your voting system to an 8 year old’s level…Replace the thumbs up/ thumbs down with, for the thumbs down, ‘giving the middle finger’ and ‘poking the tonge out’… As for a thumbs up graphic, right now i cant think of one ( it’s a long time since i was 8, and i wonder if we had a thumbs up gesture, given how, by then, we’d barely endured a couple of years schooling.)

Suggestions

Congratulations. While the coverage of convid was quite good, I would suggest the following:

1 A more balanced and penetrating analysis of the events in Ukraine.

2 More on the hazards of mobile phones and the morality and ethics of using them as well as the dystopian implications of their use. These devices use cobalt and nickel and lithium that are mined in grim human rights and environmental conditions. They cause high levels of high frequency radiation that have health and environmental implications. They are assembled under slavery like conditions in China and elsewhere. They can and have been used to track and spy on us. The forcing of QR code use during convid was the nastiest of these.
3 More balanced handling of meat and dairy alcohol consumption.
4 The clot shots are the most incredible example of the genocidal nature of the forces that rule us. It is astonishing that we know so little of what goes into the concoctions, how and why the toxicity varies so much and what the long term health implications are.
