UK quietly passes “Online Safety Bill” into law

Kit Knightly

Buried behind the Brand-related headlines yesterday, the British House of Lords voted to pass the controversial “Online Safety Bill” into law. All that’s needed now is Royal assent, which Charles will obviously provide.

The bill’s (very catchy) long-form title is…

A Bill to make provision for and in connection with the regulation by OFCOM of certain internet services; for and in connection with communications offences; and for connected purposes.

…and that’s essentially it, it hands the duty of “regulating” certain online content to the UK’s Office of Communications (OfCom).

Ofcom Chief Executive Dame Melanie Dawes could barely contain her excitement in a statement to the press:

“Today is a major milestone in the mission to create a safer life online for children and adults in the UK. Everyone at Ofcom feels privileged to be entrusted with this important role, and we’re ready to start implementing these new laws.”

As always with these things, the bill’s text is a challenging and rather dull read, deliberately obscure in its language and difficult to navigate.

Of some note is the “information offenses” clause, which empowers OfCom to demand “information” from users, companies and employees, and makes it a crime to withhold it. The nature of this “information” is never specified, nor does it appear to be qualified. Meaning it could be anything, and will most likely be used to get private account information about users from social media platforms.

In one of the more worrying clauses, the Bill outlines what they call “communications offenses”. Section 10 details crimes of transmitting “Harmful, false and threatening communications”.

It should be noted that sending threats is already illegal in the UK, so the only new ground covered here is “harmful” and/or “false” information, and the fact they feel the need to differentiate between those two things should worry you.

After all, the truth can definitely be “harmful”…Especially to a power-hungry elite barely controlling an angry populace through dishonest propaganda.

Rather amusingly, the bill makes it a crime to “send a message” containing false information in clause 156…then immediately grants immunity to every newspaper, television channel and streaming service in clause 157.

Apparently it’s OK for the mainstream media to be harmful and dishonest.

But the primary purpose of the new law is a transfer of responsibility to enable and incentivize censorship.

Search engines (“regulated search services”, to quote the bill) and social media companies (“regulated user-to-user services”) will now be held accountable for how people use their platform.

For example: If I were to google “Is it safe to drink bleach?”, find some website that says yes, and then drink bleach, OfCom would not hold me responsible. They would hold Google responsible for letting me read that website. Likewise, if someone tweets @ me telling me to drink bleach, and I do so, Twitter would be held responsible for permitting that communication to take place.

This could result in hefty fines, or even potentially criminal charges, to companies and/or executives of those companies. It could even open them up to massively expensive civil suits (don’t be surprised if such a legal drama hits the headlines soon).

Unsurprisingly the mainstream coverage of the new laws barely mentions any of these concerns, instead opting to put child pornography front and centre. Because the Mrs Lovejoy argument always works.

That’s all window dressing, of course, what this is really about is “misinformation” and “hate speech”. Which is to say, fact-checking mainstream lies and calling out mainstream liars.

Section 7(135) is entirely dedicated to the creation of a new “Advisory committee on disinformation and misinformation”, which will be expected to submit regular reports to OfCom and the Secretary of State on how best to “counter misinformation on regulated services“.

This is clearly a response to Covid, or rather the failure of Covid.

Essentially, the pandemic narrative broke because the current mechanisms of censorship didn’t work well enough. In response, the government has just legalised and out-sourced their silencing of dissent.

See, the government isn’t going to actually censor anyone themselves, protecting it from pro-free speech criticism. Rather, huge financial pressure will be applied on tech giants to be “responsible” and “protect the vulnerable”. Meaning de-platforming and cancelling independent media via increasingly opaque “terms of service violations”

These companies will be cheered on by the vast crowd of jabbed-and-masked NPCs who have been so successfully brainwashed into believing the “they are a private company and can do that they want” argument.

This has been going on for years already, of course, but that was covert stuff. Now it’s legal in the UK, and is about to get a lot worse.

It won’t be just the UK either, considering the messaging on “misinformation” being seen at the UN in the last few days, we should expect something similar on a global scale.

Such a Reality TV reboot of 1967 and “The Prisoner”.

The P as Number 6: (“Paddy Fitz”) “What do you want!”

“Number Two”: “Information.”

Number 6: “You won’t get it.”

Number 2: “O, but we will. By hook or by crook, we will.”

57 years prescient.

[I bumped into McGoohan/#6 in the lobby of the Beverly Hills Hotel, right at the time of the wrap, ’67, briefly, but in enough time to get his autograph, as all of a “Big 15” then.

He foresaw all these issues.]

Russell Brand reaches the New Age audience in particular, and not just in UK. He is unusual among alt commentators in having multinational followers.

It could be that the 77th and 13th Signals and the other NATO censors are concerned about this becoming a new “wedge” against the coming lockdowns and stepping up of war.

This follows the failure of “fact-checking”. US has been issuing “National Security Letters” for maybe a decade. In 2019, EU considered prosecuting any reference or link to any website, unless backed by a paid licence; this would even have barred even a “fair use” quotation. In Australia, the 2021 Identify & Disrupt Bill legalises a demand for covert alteration of online information including in a social media account if an enforcer “reasonably suspects” that an “offence is being, is about to be or is likely to be committed”.

What if a health agency tweets @ me to take a medical treatment which ends up harming me? Would that be the fault of Twitter too?

It seems like the writer could still be a person sending the piece to the editor before the “recognised news publisher” exemption comes into effect. Likewise a source sending something to the writer or elsewhere wouldn’t be a “recognised news publisher”. If it was a tweet by a health agency then they wouldn’t be a “recognised news publisher”.

This is a great piece and very important. Just one piece of criticism: I was about to forward this to some friends until I read the third last paragraph, “Vast crowds of jabbed and masked NPCs”.

While I agree, it’s divisive and will alienate that vast crowd. A majority of which, I reckon, could be persuaded to eventually see sense.

Off-topic, but the world oligarch’s economics front man Larry Summers is going to be here in India this weekend in an attempt to set “the world on fire.”

Here is an announcement today from Confederation of Indian Industry (a corporate lobby group that has huge influence on government policies):

CII in partnership with Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Government of India is organizing a lecture by eminent economist Prof. Larry Summers, Former US Treasury Secretary and Charles W. Eliot University Professor and President Emeritus at Harvard University at 11.30 am on Saturday, 23rd September at Hotel Leela Palace, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The topic of the lecture is ‘The World is on Fire’.

India is the current favorite playground of oligarchy (world and India’s own) and their agents. They have played their dirty games in China over last 40-50 years, and doing same in India since last 10-odd years.

So does this mean that there is support for the hypothesis that RB is facing a highly coordinated and sophisticated deliberate smear campaign for being not only anti clot shots but more importantly ANTI WAR?

Or are we still believing that all this time up until a couple of days ago he was nothing more than a robotized highly controlled PUPPET of the opposition and it’s so pleasant for him to be monetized and accused of serious criminal allegations.

Anonymous allegations played out hysterically and histrionically by FREAKING ACTRESSES in the serious investigative journalism presented by TV4 in the UK or whatever it’s called.

Personally I always liked it when my street cred was given greater visibility by having all my income sources shut down and being accused of he said she said stuff from 10’20 years that could land me in jail…..Isn’t that the alternative hypothesis we are running with here?

demonetized.
To recap:

h0: RB is facing a deliberate smear campaign designed to shut him down AND serve as an example to other mostly MEN who speak out. (let’s face it: is still harder to accuse women of having sexually assaulted men in he said she said situations from 20 years ago).
Therefore as far as the allegations go he should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Alterative hypothesis h1: RB is a puppet. He has spoken some hard hitting truths about controversial issues only because (he was drunk??)
and therefore let’s give the serious journalists of the MSM the benefit of the doubt about their serious investigative journalism…… this is totally not an obvious smear campaign.

I was re watching a bit of the documentarySelective Hearing: Brian Deer and The GMC and sure enough Channel 4 Dispatches 🚩 comes up:

https://documentaryheaven.com/brian-deer-and-the-gmc-selective-hearing/

There is the Sunday Times. Andrew Neil was in a video talking about RB and sure enough Andrew Neil was the editor at the Sunday Times working with Brian Deer back in the 80s. Seems like a pretty close match. These were the ones who attacked Andrew Wakefield back in 2004. Watch it and it will probably be like Deja Vu in reverse. Andrew Wakefield was demonetized. Some would say he was used in disinfo tactic 🐍 rule 10:

Associate opponent charges with old news. A derivative of the straw man usually, in any large-scale matter of high visibility, someone will make charges early on which can be or were already easily dealt with. Where it can be foreseen, have your own side raise a straw man issue and have it dealt with early on as part of the initial contingency plans. Subsequent charges, regardless of validity or new ground uncovered, can usually them be associated with the original charge and dismissed as simply being a rehash without need to address current issues — so much the better where the opponent is or was involved with the original source.

Perhaps that’s the way the author wanted it spelled, as in secret hidden meanings.

Plus its a good way to throw off the opposition, puts you in a subjective position of weakness below their strengths, when in fact its just the opposite.

Yes, it does matter.
Preserving the intent, nature and fine detail of one’s language is crucial to understanding what’s going on well enough.

Bit by bit, they’re by their – or there – and to the unending delight of all those who ‘could careless’ (couldn’t care less) our language is going to hell.

If we don’t do anything to stop it, then we will follow it to hell.

To care passionately, deeply and justifiably about our currently apocalyptic world events entails putting a bit of effort into expressing ourselves properly.

Typos, anybody can make by accident. No more need be said.
But carelessly confusing one word or phrase with another is something which only robots have the ‘right’ to do.
After all, we can hardly expect them to do better than that – especially if they’re programmed by illiterates, as they surely will be…

Let the robots be Howard’s “grunting beasts of burden”. (Thank you for that lovely phrase, Howard)

In a way, perhaps unintended, the use of the term “Ascent” rather than “Assent” is an ironic play on words, considering how very far Royal decrees and so forth have descended. Thus calling it an “ascent” becomes entirely satirical. (Doubtless Lord Rothschild would get a kick out of it.)l

They pretend to be freedom loving, lawful and democratically concerned, but continue to use such illegal, unconscious methods for complete control as fear based threats, forced coercion, suppression of human rights, social cancellation and full spectrum psychological psyops.

Do they respect the individual?

Do they respect individuals’ differences, their freedom of expression, their freedom of creativity?

Within their terrorist agenda, we find only evil, impurity and untruth.

We urgently must fully expose their unconscious and criminal roots.

How has this evil manifested?

Who is the central figure from whom these poisons emanate – Klaus Schwab?

If you really want to bring about a transformative revolution to our lives, you must go deep into their criminal roots.

Why did we give our power to these totalitarian globalists?

They do not wish you to experience freedom in any form, they want only that you become their slaves, because the more you are enslaved to them, the more easily you will be fully exploited.

Remember this, your inner being will never follow imposed forced behavior.

True behavioral change flows from your inner being.

The roots of conscious behavior are in your inner being.

Therefore any counterfeit authorities effort to try to change your individual behavior inevitably can only take the form of outer suppression.

By forcibly imposing on the mind that which is not really there using fear.

Yet what this suppression will truly bring about is a hardened determination, violent uprisings and rebellion.

What is suppression anyway?

Suppression is not allowing spontaneous feelings to grow in the inner being and not allowing their expression.

Crippling a sense of well being through a fear based obedience that has been imposed.

Madness is the natural outcome of a civilization based on this kind of false, hollow morality.

The last two great wars were this kind of madness and we are heading towards a third, perhaps the final conflict.

How can freedom be achieved by suppression?

Nobody can lead a moral and natural life because of suppression and one day will simply succumb to the tension.

No doubt those who resort to hypocrisy save themselves from this inner conflict to survive.

If they pretend to be what they are not.

Hypocrisy too is born out of morality based on suppression.

America is the most hypocritical, stupid and dishonest society today in the world, and the most dangerous to the human future.

Just witness Biden and Zelensky meeting tomorrow.
We are witnessing the final catastrophic days of a high speed suicidal collapse.

Nothing can save them.

In spite of the dangers we have to take steps to change this situation.

Then what shall we do?

Close your eyes, relax your breathing.

Slowly, in through the nose, out through the mouth.

Simply become a witness, standing aloof and apart, as if you have no interest other than knowing and watching.

The moment a purpose creeps in, the moment a choice or a judgment comes in, observation comes to an end.

Then you are not observing; then you have begun to think.

Please try to understand the difference between thinking and observation.

In this process we are not to think.

Then the unconscious reveals its secrets, not to thought but to observation

Self knowledge is virtue; ignorance is evil.

Evil cannot bear knowledge.

When Socrates said, “Knowledge is virtue,” he conveyed this very thing.

Light is morality; darkness, immorality.

Only the individual that has been awakened by self-knowledge is naturally moral.

They do not have to cultivate morality.

Good conduct is not based on opposition to their unconscious mind but comes out of the fullness of their inner being.

Look at the potential transformation of humanity from the standpoint of this inner revolution.

From meditation to observation.

From observation to self knowing.

From self knowing to freedom, this is the path.

Penetration of the unconscious by the conscious.

Only then will those blind, unconscious impulses of globalists be visible, because they can only exist as slave masters on the condition of a sleeping, blind and deluded humanity.

They cannot exist before a state of awakened consciousness.

Our awakening is their demise!

This is about a political system, same as in the U.S., that serves the rich and powerful and the rest of us can eat shit. The longer we put up with these systems, the worse it’s going to get. Most likely still not needed. For now.

Their current focus is to stop links to OffGuardian & similar sites being forwarded on Twatter and Fakebook: They’re no longer to spread, go viral, and perhaps not even be transmitted in private messages. They cannot become popular. They can no longer appear on the paths of unsuspecting passers-by.

With time however, when enough people are hopelessly captured by The Matrix, ISP’s will be ordered to block sites. For your protection of course. But my guess is that being another 5-10 years into the future.

ISP blocking is easy enough to get around with Doh, setting your DNS server to one that respects net freedom, posted this via TOR but I did have to disable no script to comment, I know javascript can be used to uniquely identify a browser/machine but I’m not sure that would help identifying you enough to track you down though the TOR network, don’t know enough about net security to judge

I didn’t get jabbed…in fact I warned everyone I knew not to. I had already done 9/11 with no effect whatsover..so I gave up on the jabbed stuff too. I had had absolutely no positive effect on anyone except my wife and immediate family – they kind of got the idea – that I did not think getting jabbed was a good idea.

Despite being adversely affected by Lockdown, which inhibited my normal consumption of Vitamin D, I thought I was reasonably fit and healthy for a man of my age…

I had almost no warning whatsoever…

My wife dialled 999…and I was rushed into hospital…to the front of the queue..

Everyone seemed to think I was about to drop dead…I was extremely hot and slimey…the nurse tried to cut my shirt off…I said you are not having that…I am going home in that…and am wearing it now..

Eventually she got the needle in, and the antibiotic drips..which seemed to go on for the next 3 weeks…

I would just like to say, that The NHS saved my life again.

It is not my fault that the entire world seems to have gone completely mad whilst the NHS saved my life.

Not A1 yet, but well on the way to dancing free in the sunshine

It was the first time I had been admitted to hospital in 62 years.

Thank You,

Tony

We are just joining the Pravda and Sovjet times where the population were living two opposite realities:
The official reality one with the “Imperialist Colonialist suppression of the working class masses”, and the Russian daily reality among the Russians.

Putin warned about it, it would be worse than their Gulag times. Nigel Farage warned about it, it would be a socialist hell hole.
And the the socialist concrete paradise is dozing on.

The key is what it says on the tin: the Online Safety Bill. We are told relentlessly that we have to allow others to provide, regulate and assure our safety, and, without that provision, regulation and assurance from our overlords, we can be sure that we and our children will be royally fucked.

Now listen, Citizens: choose State-assured safety. It’s like relaxing in a warm bath.

Interesting wording kit, when you say government you would of said labour if it was the left , however when it is the Torys you always use the government.

The Torys new energy bill brought in will allow them to come in to your house apartment business etc and put a smart meter in and if you do not comply your looking at a 15k fine or a year in prison and possible issue selling your property without the latest energy compliance performance certificate.

Full facts has jump to the aid and of course OFF G Favorited shill be news *(gbnews)
has SHILLB news MP regurgitates appeared out of no where promoted by MIC alt media Lee Anderson MP and co making sure it does not sound that bad…

what do you think…..????

The Energy Bill..
Many of the social media posts cite a clause in the bill which sets out the government’s ability to establish “sanctions” in order to enforce any “energy performance regulations” which may be established.

The clause states that these sanctions may include “the imposition of civil penalties” (fines) not exceeding £15,000 and the “the creation of criminal offences” punishable with a maximum prison term of 12 months, or a fine up to level five on the standard scale (an unlimited fine)

So what did Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition have to say about the Bill?

Did they criticise it as act of tyranny – or criticise it for not going far enough which has been their record on every other tyrannical action under Blair 2.0? Have they promised to repeal it once in power?

It’s another example of what Quigley and H.G. Wells wrote about how the two party system works.

BTW the Tories have dropped Net Zero. Funny how they’ve just decided this when defeat at the next election looks assured. It’s almost like they want to give the idea the image of a resounding electoral mandate and deny opponents the argument that there wasn’t any choice. Getting most people to agree to their own extinction has always been the goal….

We cannot withdraw anything before the production and storage of huge amounts of vaccines in all hospital’s and doctor’s basements are used up. Otherwise these purchases and taxpayers money would be wasted.

And you forgot to mention all the people who expressed gratefulness to Pfizer and Moderna for receiving injections and said they believe it saved their lives.

You wont admit it but these people are in the millions, duly satisfied, and these people also have a voice of free speech and a democratic vote. (sarc)

I will be very interested to see how far the state goes with this new power under ofcom, this bill does have the potential to be a totalitarian manual, from the legal but harmful Orwellian phrase, attacks on encryption and the potential of an “ID for the Internet” etc. Ofcom also like to brand themselves as “independent of state” slight problem with this is when the state demanded RT be blocked from TV, Ofcom duly revoked the license.

I do wonder if the brand reporting was both an early warning sign of how this bill will be used and also a big distraction, afterall, the latest update on the gov bills website was current “version of this bill dated 13th sep – called HL Bill 170 Commons Amendments to Lords Amendments, Consequential Amendments, Disagreements, Amendments in Lieu and Reasons” the RB denial video came out 15th Sep and reporting kicked off on sat 16th Sep 2023. followed by the bills passing on the 19th Sep 2023 could be a coincidence, makes one wonder.

the latest updates on the bill is via bills parliament 3137, i havent included a link as it may go into mods.

“a challenging and rather dull read”

Well isn’t that the customary form these days? Since the Mighty Covid oozed into sight, I have never read such soul destroying monstrously bloated flatulent piles of verbiage punctuated with reams of graphs, charts, statistics etc. Miserable repetition has been the keynote even with articles promising summaries. One spook center, Bylinetimes, had an early piece attempting to account for the puzzling turnaround in 2020 whereby the media suddenly morphed into Che Guevara. The pathological belly bulging bilging was already in full flow – necessarily so since the tale it was spouting was such obvious bollocks. Thus it always is with the Emperor’s New Clothes.
