WATCH: The Most Important Bet You’ve Never Heard Of

Have you heard of the bet between Paul Ehrlich and Julian Simon? You know, the bet about whether commodity prices would rise or fall in the 1980s? If you’re like most of the population, you haven’t.

That’s because this wasn’t some mere wager about economics, this was a contest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. Spoiler: the forces of good won. And that’s why we’re not taught about this bet in the public indoctrination system. Let’s fix that.

In this episode of The Corbett Report, James fills in the missing pieces about the most important bet you’ve never heard of and what it tells us about the value of human life.

All the billions more since that wager -so where are all the extra Mozarts and extra other geniuses ? All on Prozac and other pharmaceutical dumbing down drugs ? All the extra billions actually means a lot more stupidity, too.

A great example of the Dominance of The Brain’s Left Hemisphere. All very
logical, rational, and clever at rationalising… And there’s that (mandatory)
claim on the Right Hemisphere’s Creativity, Ingenuity, Inventiveness – which
the schooling system does its darn best to beat the hell out of the young’s
creativity, ingenuity, inventiveness**

It’s said “War Is The Mother of Invention”. So maybe we should urge the
Great and small Powers to start World War Three during which The Right
Hemisphere’s qualities can be put to work solving all our problems ?

**They never failed me when young when ever i wagged school, or needed
a reason for not doing my school homework… (And not once did i claim “The
Dog ate it”)… And, it can be argued, the Right Brain’s Creativity, Ingenuity,
Inventiveness are constrained in a Free Marker Economy – usable only if they
can help make Money, or fight Wars…

The Western Australian government is to ban greyhound racing in the state.
Research had revealed to it that betting on The Dogs is responsible for a lot
of low-income family’s economic distress. “To Protect The Children” is also
among its reasons for the banning…

The Australian government recently legislated to limit gambling adverts in the
online and MSM media. One of the reasons given is the limiting would “Protect
The Children” from being exposed to the influence of gambling adverts…

Escapekey has pointed out how every restriction imposed by governments is
now being framed as a Moral Necessity – “Protect The Planet”, “Protect Grannie”.
“Protect The Children”… Only a fiend would object…

One effect of all the ‘moralising’, this Moral Crusade, may be to show The
Russians, especially Putin who always claim s Russia to be morally superior to
The West, that The West can be as Moral, if not More Moral than Russians are…

The 1% and their ilk don’t bet, they speculate.
And unlike us Proles, they take zero risks because they rule the system.
The energy suppliers, Big pHarmer, Big Ag, the MIC, Big Media, Real Estate etc etc.

Or, to put it another way, they own

Spoiler
the horses, the racetrack and the betting companies.

And when they die they take $ 0 with them but Bad karma, so plenty of suffering for the next few decades in “hell” till their next life. How dumb for highly intelligent people.

Democracy is getting a grip on the spigot of public/national wealth/resources. Financing politicians ensures (a) private profits, even from useless projects/privilege (b) losses transferred to the public.

A lot of this is rhetorical.

A lot of this sounds like a, wait for it, a false dichotomy.

I choose neither Ehrlich nor Simon. Both seem to me to belong to the same side.

There is another answer. Less rhetorical. Less dichotomous. Wiser.

What about oil? Is oil cheaper? Natural gas?

There is plenty of it underground for ages, access only limited by politic$ and eco maniacs.
Not to mention free electric energy which is kept hidden for profit – by politic$.

When the oil and gas run out they’ll roll out free-energy devices. The energy will be free but the devices will cost a fortune to rent, for as Michael Hudson likes to point out, it’s a FIRE economy, a largely rent-seeking economy that now exists

At least Trump’s use of it has now made it possible you’ll not be arrested for offensive language when calling cops ‘You fuckin’ arseholes / wankers.”

But maybe we are not there yet. Maybe you can now get away with calling cops effin’ arseholes, but you can still get into trouble effin’ a particular minority group.

Aren’t Ehrlich and Simon on the same side? One would think so. They seem to be. Maybe covering both bases, as is the usual strategy.

No. Erhlich represents the death side. He believes death is a good thing. You will know most people are depressed about human beings and negative in general.

Simon represents life. He sees every baby as a new wonder. I agree with Corbett here in his strong favoris. Its about a view of life.

It’s all the stuff that was said about Biden (he’s got dementia, he’s shat himself in public, he’s dead) replayed for the other side of the dialectic. Expect a deliberately bad lookalike to start making appearances soon.
