Apocalypse Now: The Government’s Use of Controlled Chaos to Maintain Power

John & Nisha Whitehead

Figure One: Just stop a few of their machines and radios and telephones and lawn mowers…throw them into darkness for a few hours and then you just sit back and watch the pattern.

Figure Two: And this pattern is always the same?

Figure One: With few variations. They pick the most dangerous enemy they can find…and it’s themselves. And all we need do is sit back…and watch…and let them destroy themselves. — “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street,” Twilight Zone

Will 2024 be the year the Deep State’s exercise in controlled chaos finally gives way to an apocalyptic dismantling of our constitutional republic, or what’s left of it?

All the signs seem to point in this direction.

For years now, the government has been pushing us to the brink of a national nervous breakdown.

This breakdown—triggered by polarizing circus politics, media-fed mass hysteria, militarization and militainment (the selling of war and violence as entertainment), a sense of hopelessness and powerlessness in the face of growing corruption, the government’s alienation from its populace, and an economy that has much of the population struggling to get by—has manifested itself in the polarized, manipulated mayhem, madness and tyranny that is life in the American police state today.

Why is the Deep State engineering this societal madness? What’s in it for the government?

What is playing out before us is a chilling lesson in social engineering that keeps the populace fixated on circus politics and conveniently timed spectacles, distracted from focusing too closely on the government’s power grabs, and incapable of standing united in defense of our freedoms.

It’s not conspiratorial.

It’s a power play.

Rod Serling, the creator of the Twilight Zone, understood the dynamics behind this power play.

In the Twilight Zone episode, “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street,” Serling imagined a world in which the powers-that-be carry out a social experiment to see how long it would take before the members of a small American neighborhood, frightened by a sudden loss of electric power and caught up in fears of the unknown, will transform into an irrational mob and turn on each other.

It doesn’t take long at all.

Likewise, in Netflix’s apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind (produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s studio), unexplained crises lead to a technological blackout that leaves the populace disconnected, disoriented, isolated, suspicious, and under attack from mysterious ailments and each other.

As one of Leave the World’s characters speculates, the culprit behind the escalating catastrophes, which range from WiFi outages and mysterious health ailments to cities under siege from rogue forces, may be the result of a military campaign intended to destabilize a nation by forcing people to turn against each other.

It’s really not so far-flung a scenario when you consider some of the many ways the government already has the ability to manufacture crises in order to sow fear, fuel hysteria, destabilize the nation and institute martial law.

The government has the tools and the know-how to manufacture health crises. Long before COVID-19 locked down the nation, the U.S. government was creating lethal viruses and unleashing them on an unsuspecting public.

The government has the tools and the know-how to manufacture civil unrest and political upheaval. Since the days of J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI has been using agent provocateurs to infiltrate activist groups in order to “expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit and otherwise neutralize” them.

The government has the tools and the know-how to manufacture economic instability. As the national debt continues to rise upwards of $34 trillion, with little attempt by federal agencies to curtail spending, it stands as the single-most pressing threat to the economy.

The government has the tools and the know-how to manufacture environmental disasters. Deployed in 1947, Project Cirrus, an early precursor to HAARP, the government’s weather-altering agency, attempted to disable a hurricane as it was moving out to sea. Instead of weakening the storm, however, the government steered it straight into Georgia, resulting in millions of dollars in damaged properties.

The government has the tools and the know-how to manufacture communications blackouts. Internet and cell phone kill switches enable the government to shut down communications at a moment’s notice. It’s a practice that has been used before in the U.S. In 2005, cell service was disabled in four major New York tunnels (reportedly to avert potential bomb detonations via cell phone). In 2009, those attending President Obama’s inauguration had their cell signals blocked (again, same rationale). And in 2011, San Francisco commuters had their cell phone signals shut down (this time, to thwart any possible protests over a police shooting of a homeless man).

The government has the tools and the know-how to manufacture terrorist attacks. Indeed, the FBI has a pattern and practice of entrapment that involves targeting vulnerable individuals, feeding them with the propaganda, know-how and weapons intended to turn them into terrorists, and then arresting them as part of an elaborately orchestrated counterterrorism sting.

The government has the tools and the know-how to manufacture propaganda aimed at mind control and psychological warfare. Not long ago, the Pentagon was compelled to order a sweeping review of clandestine U.S. psychological warfare operations (psy ops) conducted through social media platforms. The investigation came in response to reports suggesting that the U.S. military had been creating bogus personas with AI-generated profile pictures and fictitious media sites on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in order to manipulate social media users. Of the many weapons in the government’s vast arsenal, psychological warfare (or psy ops) can take many forms: mind control experiments, behavioral nudging, propaganda. In fact, the CIA spent nearly $20 million on its MKULTRA program, reportedly as a means of programming people to carry out assassinations and, to a lesser degree, inducing anxieties and erasing memories, before it was supposedly shut down.

We must never forget that the government no longer exists to serve its people, protect their liberties and ensure their happiness.

Rather, “we the people” are the unfortunate victims of the diabolical machinations of a make-works program carried out on an epic scale whose only purpose is to keep the powers-that-be permanently (and profitably) employed.

This is how tyranny rises and freedom falls.

Almost every tyranny being perpetrated by the U.S. government against the citizenry—purportedly to keep us safe and the nation secure—has come about as a result of some threat manufactured in one way or another by our own government.

Think about it: Cyberwarfare. Terrorism. Bio-chemical attacks. The nuclear arms race. Surveillance. The drug wars. Domestic extremism. The COVID-19 pandemic.

In almost every instance, the U.S. government has in its typical Machiavellian fashion sown the seeds of terror domestically and internationally in order to expand its own totalitarian powers.

Consider that this very same government has taken every bit of technology sold to us as being in our best interests—GPS devices, surveillance, nonlethal weapons, etc.—and used it against us, to track, trap and control us.

Are you getting the picture yet?

The U.S. government isn’t protecting us from threats to our freedoms. The U.S. government is creating the threats to our freedoms.

It’s telling that in Leave the World Behind, before disaster strikes, the main characters—on their way to a family vacation—are utterly oblivious, connected to their electronic devices and insulated from each other and the world around them. Adding to the disconnect, the family’s teen daughter, Rose, is fixated on binge-watching episodes of Friends, even as the world falls apart around them. As TV critic Jen Chaney explains, the sitcom’s presence in the story “underlines how human beings crave escapism at the expense of embracing the actual present, a different way of ‘leaving the world behind.’

We’re in a similar escapist bubble, suffering from a “crisis of the now,” which keeps us distracted, deluded, amused, and insulated from reality.

Professor Jacques Ellul studied this phenomenon of overwhelming news, short memories and the use of propaganda to advance hidden agendas. “One thought drives away another; old facts are chased by new ones,” wrote Ellul.

“Under these conditions there can be no thought. And, in fact, modern man does not think about current problems; he feels them. He reacts, but he does not understand them any more than he takes responsibility for them. He is even less capable of spotting any inconsistency between successive facts; man’s capacity to forget is unlimited. This is one of the most important and useful points for the propagandists, who can always be sure that a particular propaganda theme, statement, or event will be forgotten within a few weeks.”

Yet in addition to being distracted by our electronic devices and diverted by bread-and-circus entertainment spectacles, we are also being polarized by political theater, which aims to keep us divided and at war with each other.

This is the underlying cautionary tale of Leave the World Behind and “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”: we are being manipulated by forces beyond our control.

A popular meme circulating a while back described it this way:

“If you catch 100 red fire ants as well as 100 large black ants, and put them in a jar, at first, nothing will happen. However, if you violently shake the jar and dump them back on the ground the ants will fight until they eventually kill each other. The thing is, the red ants think the black ants are the enemy and vice versa, when in reality, the real enemy is the person who shook the jar. This is exactly what’s happening in society today. Liberal vs. Conservative. Black vs. White. Pro Mask vs. Anti Mask. The real question we need to be asking ourselves is who’s shaking the jar … and why?”

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, the government has never stopped shaking the jar.

I was working in NYC when the 2003 blackout happened.

“New York City is often referred to as the ‘city that never sleeps.’ On Aug. 14, 2003, however, a major power outage left about 50 million people across the Northeast in darkness — with New York City largely at a standstill.

August 14, 2003 is remembered as a hot, sticky summer day. The largest city in America is switched off at 4:11 p.m. — office workers poured into the streets, traffic lights went out and gridlock gripped the city.

Power was restored in the city after about 29 hours, but it took up to four days in some places.”

But there was no looting, no chaos, no violence. Restaurants opened their doors and served free meals outside, guitar playing, singing could be heard, there was a general sense of community and the sky void of electric pollution never looked more beautiful.

You just never know how people are really going to react until something happens. And with the climate of deprogramming going on wide scale, the cult leaders’ propaganda schemes appear to be having less and less effect.

The First Purge, a film about an annual “night of violence” to release tensions is probably the dumbest premise that’s come along. Rather than address the 50-yr. Wall St and corporate takeover of economic policy that causes unnecessary financial stress and homelessness, promoting a killing spree is viewed as a logical solution. The more desperate corporate control becomes, the more insipid the narratives.

The film is, no doubt, dumb. But look up ‘charivari’ and you’ll see there are well-rooted origins for these harsh noise customs. Another custom that perhaps could do with revival is the jubilee. But I suspect only a certain class of people will enjoy debt forgiveness.

Everything here is familiar from history – what is extraordinary about the current decades is the digital context in the background. Our devices have made us addicted and rendered us knowledable but seemingly helpless. I think we are literally entering the ‘iron cage’ of modernity predicted by Max Weber at the beginning of the 20th century. Rationalization = Dehumanization.

History is full of deceptions and conspiracies and the critics of Capitalism were the first to denounce those happening under Capital, perhaps without using those specific terms. Indeed, what is manufacturing a false scarcity by hoarding up grain or other essential commodities for weeks or months then release them at higher prices if not a deception? What are secret agreements between presumably competing companies on a fixed higher price, or flat-out anti-competitive mergers if not conspiracies against the smaller producers and consumers? Deception and conspiracy are at the hearth of our economic system. Why? Because it would wither without them.

Marx has proved that the long-term tendency (over several decades) of the rate of profit is to fall and knowing that the first thing investors look at when considering reinvestment is the rate of profit, not its amount, it means our economic system, by its own laws and logic, is unreliable; hence the only thing that can be done to secure the current privileges and thus keep class division is to force unexpected changes in the political, economic and social environment, so as to slow down this fall or provoke temporary and abrupt increases. When business gets stressed up because it is not making gains and that is perceived as threatening to class division, then policy takes care of that. Capital and The State are complementary to each other, but that doesn’t mean that every capitalist gets the nod of the government but, on the whole, the State (which includes the UN and which has its long term survival in “mind” rather than immediate achievements) regulates the flow of Capital resulting in both winners and losers among the capitalists.

What I disagree with is the assertion that the same group of conflict-less people are above all other interests and behind all conspiracies and deceptions. Our system is far too complex, with far too many actors of both conflicting and common interests. The ruling classes work hard to keep hidden their conflicts and only publish their agreements.

How does Marx explain all those post-Modern companies that don’t make any profit, year after year? I daresay he doesn’t. The world moves on.

Marx studied profit making business and concluded that it has inner contradictions which in the long run shall make the rate of profit fall as an aggregate and a tendency.

That doesn’t mean that there are no activities that are not based on profit making which are therefore to an extent outside of Marx’s enquiries; in fact, we are even surrounded by many unpaid labour. However, profit making businesses is what gives modern societies their character and which therefore interested Marx; it’s what makes the wheels of commerce turn and provides the overwhelming majority of world population running water, gas, electricity, food and the other commodities; not the non-profit activities.

Also, the term non-profit may be misleading as it doesn’t mean that these activities are not making profits, but that any profits, instead of being pocketed by the investors, go to the maintenance of these organisions which also depend on donations and tax reductions or exemptions. These non profit organizations can only exist and the world, under the current economic system, can only go on thanks to the existence of profit making businesses, for, those working in those organisations make a living elsewhere either working in regular business or owning one.

Under Capital, you can only survive by making profit or working for, or in any case depending on someone else who does.

The ruling elite (today’s globalist cabal) have been using fear and disinformation to achieve their goals of total control and monopoly ownership of everything; including humanity and the whole planet for thousands of years. To these psychopaths we are mere commodities, pawns and puppets to be manipulated, experimented upon and sucked dry of life’s vitality. These vampires cunningly use their advanced technology to misdirect our energies, deaden our minds, misappropriate our labor and sacrifice our lives to enrich themselves.
Now they are so crazed and brazen they no longer feel they need all of us so they have embarked upon an accelerated global depopulation campaign to kill most of us off and replace us with robots, chimeras and “augmented humans”. To accomplish this objective they must continue to gaslight, dupe and deceive us into believing they are our benefactors rather than soulless psychopaths hellbent on creating a dystopian reality with themselves in total control/ownership.
Rouse from your stupor, observe the trends and patterns, connect the dots, engage in mental decolonization, free your mind, the rest will follow.

It’s clear now that what had driven Kurtz insane in ‘Apocalypse Now’ was the Phoenix Programme. The film doesn’t use the name but the content is all there – to find the Phoenix Programme named one had to go, rather bizarrely, to ‘Lethal Weapon’. To see how they deal with the Phoenix Programme now, go – if you must – to the Ken Burns’ Vietnam series which gives it about ten minutes in twenty hours before concluding the North Vietnamese were worse and putting on another record in what’s been rightly dubbed nostalgia programming.

Douglas Valentine of course wrote the book on the Phoenix Programme. It’s essential but heavy reading and other things I’ve seen from Valentine make me doubt his story about how he was able to write it. Operation Chaos is still, to my knowledge, lacking an overarching book and it remains more concealed than Phoenix or MK Ultra but one can see parts of it in Tom O’Neill’s book ‘Chaos’ about Manson or in Brad Screiber’s book about Patty Hearst ‘Revolution’s End’. Nowadays there isn’t a left anti-war movement that needs discrediting – they haven’t seen a war they haven’t loved since Obama.

WHO statistics put the virus cumulative global death total at 7 million. See the problem? That doesn’t even begin to address the hundreds of thousands of reported adverse effects, many of which like the heart and clottting related issues (myocarditis, pericarditis, thrombocytopenia, etc etc – the list is long) are severe and serious and will cause many more deaths over the next few years. If someone told you the vaccine would kill over 2 times the number of people the virus did would you have taken it?

Even more relevant in the third decade of the 21st century:

I find it very difficult to enthuse
Over the current news.

Just when you think that at least the outlook is so black that it can grow no blacker, it worsens,
And that is why I do not like the news, because there has never been an era when so many things were going so right for so many of the wrong persons.

You may ask if…? But I ask: Why?

Could the answer have something to do with messianic return delusions? The counting of years and sometime very soon IT will happen? Is it a revisiting of the atomic bomb destruction of whole civilisations on the Sinai Peninsula in 2024 BC to destroy the “sinning” cultures? The struggle between the descendants of who was the rightful “chosen” son?

Judaism, Islam and Christianity *ALL* have a “messianic return” of some sort. Which is a fair proportion of humanity. Somebody may wish to calculate as to the precise number of ‘deluded’ billions. Though somewhat differing in their content and views of end times scenarios (particularly within Islam), there is also common ground.

And the alternative? Billions of years of blind, random chance from some random explosion in space. How credible is that.

To clarify marginally (or to obfuscate further):

Judaism looks for Mashiach-ben-Joseph (suffering servant) and Mashiach-ben-David (military leader) as Messiahs. Essentially 2 Messiahs.

Christianity amalgamates Son of Joseph and Son of David into one Jesus. No need for 2 people. One Messiah will do fine, thank you very much.

And as for Islam, Jesus (upon His return) turns out to be a closet Muslim warring against Israel alongside their ‘Messiah’ Mohammed (son of Abdul).

So yes, a difference in perspectives for sure, but common ground too

Big Bang and the randomness of creation is bogus, as you say.

That does not legitimise the belief in the various gods that once roamed the earth (amalgamated into the one god in the holy books) as the true source of all that is. These false gods came to earth to extract our gold and they created mankind in their image thanks to their advanced knowledge. They also taught us agriculture, astronomy and much more.

The ‘return’ is about the return of planet X, the 12th planet, which has a 3,600 year orbit. When it comes our way, it’s possible that we will be visited by these ‘gods’ once more.

Absolutely. When the paradigm can be explained in one article like this, the end for our true enemy is imminent.

I realized in the early 2000’s that implementation of austerity everywhere, called by the elite “structural adjustments”, that by making things worse, being destructive and then claiming crisis, advocating even more destructive solutions, was their key to destroying human society, privatizing everything into their handsand turning 99% of Humanity into rentier serfs. It’s a formula.

Isn’t it obvious about now that governing regimes, not “corporations”, “the deep state”, “terrorism”, China or Russia are the REAL cause of all this disorder and, more directly, of falling living standards?

If and when the public finally wakes up and demands smaller, poorer and weaker government things may change.

If and when the public finally wakes up and demands larger, richer and stronger government things may change. For the better.

Because national governments are now too small, too poor and too weak to fight global corporations.

If only the sheeple would wake up and do something, then they could do it. Because they are many and they are few!

There is most definitely a conscious effort to bring controlled chaos to the masses.

But it has nothing to do with introducing totalitarianism … we already have that.

The purpose of this chaos is to Mass Demoralize the masses. To make them not care if they live or die.

How many times have you heard people say ‘This is not a world I care to live in’ as they observe the Idiocracy that is playing out day after day.

Why do they want us to descend it apathy?

It is because we are being exterminated — and when you break the will to live — the masses will go to their deaths without a whimper – and certainly without a fight.

This is why they are exterminating us https://www.headsupster.com/forumthread?shortId=220

The carbon currency end game unfolds as a confluence of economic Myths Directed by a no longer invisible hand seeks to bring in a techno Feudal surveillance state.
I find it remarkable in one way that this is the first comment on this article.

In another I do not as clearly the evidence supports the Articles conclusions but those conclusions are not consistent with the defence of ; the “Peak Oil” narrative. The “Global Heating” Narrative, or indeed the nascent Global “Sovereign Debt Crisis “narrative.

All statistics and graphs are bookkeeping fiddling and lies about reality.

Go through at least all Western invest sites and invest media since 2009 and see every single fokking year they predict the big crash is coming.

I look after what key figures says:
When Iran’s Khamenei says “there will be no war with US/Israel” then this is highly likely and true they will not enter into a war with Iran.
When Putin says “there will be no global recession”, then there will be no global recession. Have you seen any recession lately? So f… MSM again again again.

“in addition to being distracted by our electronic devices and diverted by bread-and-circus entertainment spectacles, we are also being polarized by political theater, which aims to keep us divided and at war with each other.”

I think this conclusion is a good start , in a strange way its a good answer but what is the question.

Bruce Charlton in Addicted to distraction came up with his checklist of the various species of inversion a good many years back, the debate has not moved beyond his analysis and “research” or “discourse” on line lacks the attention span to develop the questions needed to break out of the stagnation.

“What would love do now”?

Yes, the Propaganda Focus piece is interesting Dale Scott is quoted, I was somewhat surprised at the time, reading Dale Scott on Covid 19, maybe it was age who knows perhaps he had epstein-like ” flying habits” like noam chomsky?.
Regarding comments Tom, I tend to read all comments and the links along with an article the comments appear as and just respond until my post appears without moderation usually by having less than two links.
It does not matter much I think the internet is impotent as a medium for reaching open minds and seeking better answers.
I interact very sparingly these days on the WEB and concentrate much more on real life, to be clear The Internet does not reflect real life it is at best an obscene caricature and in general an incoherent nonsense.
Anyway Tom just ignore me I do and it’s really the best approach.

All the best

That, and that it never did, I am reminded, more and more, ever day.

From Wikipedia:

“Panem et Circenses” — Juvenal, a Roman poet of late 1st to early 2nd century AD; the phrase is used commonly in political, contexts.

Interesting that it took another 4 centuries for Rome to fall to the barbarians at the gate. Even more interesting were the beneficial results of the fall: a “unipolar world” of little countries, each with its own national “flavour” — Italy, Spain, France, Britain, etc.

“I prefer living outside the reach of the Emperor. The barbarians let you alone so long as you join in the raids and share out the loot fairly.” — Arnold Toynbee, Greek Life and Thought.
