The Speech Police

CJ Hopkins

OK, this one is for all the professional “sensitivity editors” out there, and for the US Department of Homeland Security, and President Donald Trump, and the European Union censors, and all the other self-appointed Speech Police that have been goose-stepping around dictating what everyone can and can’t say and publish and think all the time like a bunch of sanctimonious little fascists.

If you’re easily offended, you’ll probably want to skip this one.

This isn’t the column I was planning to write. I was going to write an insufferably pompous and crushingly boring column about “the state of the publishing industry” and “contemporary literature,” and all that crap, but then a number of recent events intervened and forced me to change my plan.

I was planning to publish that insufferably pompous and crushingly boring column about the publishing industry and literature, and so on, because I’ve got a couple of new books coming out soon.

The first one, Fear and Loathing in the New Normal Reich, will be published by Skyhorse Publishing in April. The other one is a new edition of my dystopian novel, Zone 23, which will be published by Arcade Publishing in July.

Skyhorse Publishing, launched in 2006 by Tony Lyons, is one of the fastest-growing independent book publishers in the United States. The company has published 112 New York Times bestsellers. Arcade Publishing is an imprint of Skyhorse Publishing. Their official motto is “Something to Offend Everyone.”

As you can probably guess from the fact that they are publishing two of my books, Skyhorse Publishing and Arcade Publishing do not employ “sensitivity editors” or otherwise attempt to sanitize the writing of the authors they publish. “Sensitivity editing” is just another example of the censorship, “visibility filtering,” and other forms of speech policing that has become normalized in recent years. If you’re not familiar with “sensitivity editing,” I published a column about it in 2023 after Puffin Books—an imprint of Penguin Random House—unleashed their “sensitivity editors” on Roald Dahl’s books.

Anyway, I decided not to write that crushingly boring column about the publishing industry, the “big five” publishers that mostly decide what everyone reads, and the state of contemporary literature, and so on, because I have really had it with all the censorship, and sensitivity editing, and speech policing, and the crackdown on political dissent, and the abrogation of what remains of our democratic rights.

The Department of Homeland Security’s recent arrest and planned deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, a pro-Palestinian activist and Columbia University grad-student, who the Trump administration has accused, not of any actual crime, but, rather, of “terrorist-aligned” speech, and Trump’s fascistic tweets that followed, and people’s rationalizations of this latest example of the new, nascent form of totalitarianism I have been writing and warning about, was just … well, I felt that something a little more relevant than an insufferably pompous and mind-numbingly boring column about the publishing industry and literature was in order.

So here goes.

* * *

An Open Letter to the United States Department of Homeland Security, the European Union Thought Police, the Sensitivity Editing Community, the Anti-Defamation League, the Anti-Zionist Inquisition, the Visibility-Filtering Department of Free-Speech X, the German Anti-Meme Police, the UK’s Ministry of Defense Against Potentially Harmful Silent Prayer, the Terminally Woke, the Covidian Cult, the Musk Cult, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, the Federal Bureau of Mandatory Pronoun Usage, the International Society of Anus-Clenching Control Freaks, the National Association for the Advancement of Humorless People, et al.

Dear Sir or Madam (or whatever the fuck you’re calling yourself these days),

I am writing to bring to your attention some rather disturbing thoughts I have been having recently, which I assume you will want to log in whatever paranoid database you maintain to keep track of convicted thoughtcriminals like me.

These thoughts have to do with my views, which I’m afraid have become misaligned.

Dangerously misaligned.

Now, I want to stress that I am not in any way a danger to myself or others. But I am concerned that some of my views might be.

Specifically, I’m afraid that my views might be “adversarial to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States of America,” and might also threaten to “delegitimize the democratic state” in which I reside, i.e., the Federal Republic of Germany, and other member states of the European Union, and … well, the whole of humanity itself.

For example, terrorism. I’m a big fan of terrorism. My views are definitely “aligned” with terrorism. The wanton mass murder of innocent civilians. Hijackings. Suicide bombings. Beheadings. Assassinations. That kind of thing.

Also, racism, and anti-Semitism, and assorted other forms of bigotry. My views are “aligned” with that stuff as well. Hatred, generally. The more hatred the better, and not just hatred of marginalized groups like fags, trannies, jungle bunnies, wetbacks, hymies, ragheads, gooks, retards, fatsos, midgets, and other protected persons, also hatred of normal heterosexual white people, most of whom are inbred crackers like that banjo kid in the movie Deliverance.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not a bigot, or a racist, or a virulent anti-Semite myself. If you don’t believe me, just ask my good friend, Shaniqua. Shaniqua is a Black Jewish transgender woman who has been actively campaigning to wipe Israel off the face of the earth for years, and a personal friend of mine. Just the other day, as Shaniqua was fucking me in the ass wearing nothing but a gigantic Hamas flag—i.e., wearing it tied around her neck like a superhero cape—as I blasphemed the Prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ in my best imitation of the voice of William S. Burroughs, who shot his wife in the head, while a video loop of Elon Musk doing a Hitler salute played on the massive plasma TV that a Ukrainian Nazi friend of mine stole from a stock broker he sells snuff films to, she says to me (i.e., Shaniqua does, not my Ukrainian Nazi friend), she says, “C. J., you’re probably the least bigoted piece of white-trash I have ever been personal friends with.”

So don’t even think of trying that “C. J. is a racist and an anti-Semite” crap in my BTL comments, or I’ll sic Shaniqua and my Jew lawyers on you.

Oh, and, speaking of wiping people and nation-states off the face of the earth. There’s another one of my views that I am afraid is probably “adversarial to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States of America” and might threaten to “delegitimize the democratic state” of Germany, or whatever.

Yes, that’s right, genocide. I am pro-genocide. Terrorist genocide is best, but any kind of genocide is OK with me. Like how the Europeans genocided the Native Americans, or how the Nazis genocided the Jews, or how Israel is genociding the Palestinians, or, gosh, there are just so many examples throughout our history, the British empire, the Ottoman empire, the Soviet Union, the Khmer Rouge, Darfur, the Rwandan genocide, Bangladesh, the Albigensian Crusade, the Tesla auto dealership genocide, and so on.

Of course I would never myself engage in any acts of terrorism, or genocide, or racist behavior, or financially or otherwise materially support any such acts, or any persons, groups, nation-states, global corporations, or other entities, that engage in such acts.

That said, my views are my views (unless I’m lying), and they are bad, and wrong, and offensive, and potentially harmful, and I’ve just published them on a public platform. Clearly, something needs to be done about that. Something ridiculously over-the-top authoritarian, like arresting and renditioning me to some hellhole in the deep South, and then deporting me to … well, somewhere (we’ll address that shortly). Because we can’t have terrorist-aligned political satirists who are already convicted hate criminals running around being adversarial to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States of America, and threatening to delegitimize the democratic state of Germany, and stochastically terrorizing anti-Zionist African-American transgender persons, and calling the Gulf of America the “Gulf of Mexico” (which, I confess, I have also been doing), can we?

OK, the deportation thing could get a bit tricky in my case. The Trump administration can’t deport me because I don’t live in the USA. I live here in Germany. I suppose they could get Germany to deport me back to the USA, rendition me down to that hellhole in the deep South where they sent Khalil, and then try to deport me back to Germany, where I have already been convicted of Thought Crimes and am awaiting sentencing, and then Germany could re-deport me to, I don’t know, wherever the AfD is planning to mass deport all the non-Aryans to.

I’ll leave that to President Trump, Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Rubio, and Minister of Propaganda Musk, or whatever his title is these days, to work out.

In the meantime, if you’re a member of the Sensitivity Editing Community, or are one of the other “woke” fanatics that helped usher the new totalitarianism into being over the course of the last ten years, and who are now hypocritically excoriating the Trump administration for doing exactly what you did, just in a more ham-fisted fashion, well, I suppose you can try to “cancel” me, but that might also get a bit tricky.

You already got me convicted as a “hate criminal” for tweeting the cover art of one of my books, so you can’t really damage my reputation and income much more than you have. And I have been blacklisted by my former friends and colleagues in the theater and literary communities since I challenged the official Covid narrative in 2020. So I don’t really have much more to lose at this point, professionally. I suppose you could attempt to pressure Skyhorse Publishing and Arcade Publishing into cancelling the forthcoming publication of my next two books and issuing some kind of pussy-assed press release regarding what a horrible, Covid-denying, far-right-anti-vax-extremist-aligned, disinformation-disseminating hate-criminal I am.

Good luck with that!

Oh, and, thanks again for making a mockery of the rule of law and democratic rights and principles like freedom of speech and the press, and demonizing, deplatforming, and censoring anyone who challenged your official propaganda and ridiculous woke ideological horseshit over the last ten years, and otherwise giving the Trump regime carte fucking blanche to go full-fascist and justify their actions with the “dangerous,” “harmful,” and “extremist-aligned” speech arguments you pioneered.

Well done, you fucking idiots!

Best wishes and kindest personal regards,
CJ Hopkins

this screed actually to my eyes makes a reasonable case FOR censorship by highlighting 2 good things about it

first, it’s a great target for rebellious posturing and its victims can reap all the rewards of martyrdom

I don’t mean this entirely as a cynical jibe, though it’s pretty clear that the author here is basking in the alt-media cred that comes from getting whacked at a bit with the Kulturkampf bludgeon

more fundamentally, a conspicuous regime of filters for public discourse focuses sharper attention on the illegitimacy of the authorities imposing these limitations, makes it harder to be complacent and apathetic

a second upside of policies restricting expression is that they stimulate informal, distributed, impassioned and innovative channels of evasion and obfuscation, à la the samizdat movement back in the USSR

in this context the example also of US broadcast television from my childhood springs to mind

something like “sensitivity” editing or good old fashioned Bowdlerization was always obligatory when films made for exhibition in theaters came to the small screen

scenes considered particularly unsuitable by the Standards and Practices department were simply snipped out, but violations of the language code could be patched with appropriately sanitized equivalents through dubbing of the dialog track

and many times the replacement epithets were vastly more creative than the monotous stream of four-letter words the actors had originally said

the above text here features an analogous bit of self-censorship when the author chooses quaint watered-down slurs like “hymies” and “jungle bunnies”, tactfully eschewing the hard-core alternatives that might really offend somebody

What I disagree with is your implication that a censorship regime will highlight the essential malevolence of the practice and ultimately result in popular rebellion against all censorship. That might have once been true; but no longer. The cell phone has so corrupted the minds of people – almost to the point of derangement – that the very clear line separating reality from fantasy has been completely blurred.

As to your first point, I reluctantly agree. Example: CJ Hopkins himself. I checked out the publisher he praises for its radical approach to publishing. Not so much. First of all, this Sky Horse/Arcade seems to be a branch of Simon & Schuster. Then, they have the same old same old requirements for submissions. So if Mr. Hopkins were not already an established writer, he would have fared no better than if he went to, say, Random House – and he’d have no reason to sing their praises. Those who treat us special sure do look good to us, don’t they?

Obviously you can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater. What if some fellow cinephile ran out of the theater during the good part? How would you feel then?

What if you insult someone? That would be hate speech. The USA constitution doesn’t mean you can just say anything you want. “Free speech” means “free approved” speech and always has. What would even be the point of having power if you’re left to be insulted by the underclass? That could get out of hand very quickly.
Having power means you get to decide what “free speech” means, what “right to bear arms” means and what “right to be free of unreasonable searches” means. If someone with power does it then it’s reasonable. (They may have drugs on them, are creating a public danger, or promoting hate speech). Same with every other law of constitutional principle.

The amazing part is some people think it is, or ever, was different.

As I’ve pointed out before, shouting “Fire!” in a crowded theater IS allowed – even required – if and when there really IS a fire.

Terrorism is the most monstrous thing in the world today. Not the act, whatever that even is. But the word itself. It is the quintessential classist concept.

Only rich powerful “First World” countries are allowed to use the word. Poor, powerless “Third World” countries are banned by the inviolable Iron Law of Oligarchy from ever using that most precious of all class oriented words.

The US can have a plethora of Terrorists on its doorstep (i.e., the entire world); and those of its allies worthy of having Terrorists are given permissions to use it. But no one else.

As I’ve said before, and will say it as often as I can, whenever some puffed up official says “Terrorist” a turd should spew from that official’s mouth (rather like the episode where the citizens of “South Park” reversed their digestive system, taking food in their anus and expelling waste through their mouths). Because, really, given its exclusivity, calling someone a “Terrorist” is like spitting fecal matter at them.

So, in essence, that’s what it means to be a member of the Ruling Class. It means chewing shit all day and spitting it out at random.

Means, if you use any sentence or ref of my intelligent comments here in other media, you have taken advantage of the cost i had to invention, ideas, and time spent.

If you refuse to understand this I could let my Union write a letter to the Trump loving OffG Adm and ask them to put economic sanctions on YOU until you pay!

By the way they say US MIC is spending 1 trillion USD which is 50% of the World budget for Military, but US Big Pharma is spending 2 trillion USD for comparison.

Has it ever occurred to you that Australia became ‘multicultural’ from the day the Europeans first landed? The Aboriginals didn’t have a choice in the matter when they were swamped by MUTICULTURAL Europeans, i.e. English, Scots, Irish, Welsh a dozen or so Africans, a plethora of Germans, French and an assortment of Ethno-Euros, etc. etc. … or doesn’t that quite gel with your particular version of history? Do tell ,,,

You know, if any of those countries in Europe were willing to take back whites from the ‘diaspora’, I’m sure many would be willing to relocate. But unfortunately, the European countries only seem to want to import non-whites whose cultures are often woefully incompatible with those of Europe. Why is that?

Of course, my point exactly. My family is one of the plethora of migrants into this country. Moreover, I survived the jeers and jokes, just like all the other kids from various non-Anglo cultures. No need for speech regulation.

By the way, from another angle of this politician telling TV watchers about the new crackdown on free speech law (I saw the clip on another platform) the cameras showed him wearing a kippah (skullcap).

That’s what this is really about: You’re no longer allowed to voice your misgivings about Israeli Jewish/Zionist genocide of Middle Easterners but it will no doubt be okay to continue calling Italians and Greeks “wogs” – for good reason at all.

Before the genocide in Palestine, our multiculturalism worked just fine without anti-free speech laws. Now Jewish dual citizens in this country are enacting new laws to protect their image.

Columbia University is the epicenter for a lot more anti-anti-Zionist activity than just Mr. Kahlil’s ‘nacht und nabel’ arrest. It appears that any kind of protest sympathetic to Palestinians (and protesting what is quite clearly genocide in Gaza etc.) is met with what used to be called ‘extreme prejudice’ by the university authorities.

Last Sunday our regional paper featured a supplement advertising Gutemala. An interesting piece that was obviously prepared months ago because its got certain keywords like ‘inclusivity’ and ‘sustainabiliy’ all over it. That got me thinking about the purge of certain keywords ordered by our current Administration and how much easier Winston Smith’s job would be these days. As a loyal Oceana citizen myself (MinLove please note!) I can see the need for MinTruth to guide peoples’ opinions, we all need to believe that everything that’s done is for our Best Interests (etc. etc. etc.)…….

As I tried warning liberal friends who thought cancel culture and all that bleating about “misinformation” was such a good thing, best be aware that WHEN the “other side” gets into power that cancel culture will come for YOU. Of course that kinda thing falls on willfully deaf ears, as liberals would never censor speech, right?

Well, here is; isn’t he a “super-globalist appointment, directly descended from the Western think-tanks for planning and decision-making”? So, at least for him, there is no problem. Apparently, it does not contradict the goals of his puppeteers, who should be mortal enemies of “antiglobalist” Trump. A new, more hetero Trudeau, who “is in tune with the will of the people”.

These are some of the ambitious yet truly retarded psychopaths who want to rule humanity, to dominate our world. They are dangerous, unhinged narcissists, who have created fear in you.

Fear is like rust, it destroys all intelligence.

If you want to destroy somebody’s intelligence, the first necessary thing is to create fear, create hell, create division, distrust, conflict, agony.

They created endless unnecessary wars, manufactured climate alarm-ism, fake pandemics with forced lethal solutions.

They have all failed.

The politicians and priests have been promising false hope to humanity for thousands of years, yet all their promises have proved false.

Humanity has remained poor, sick, starving, enslaved to so many things, ideologically imprisoned, financially chained.

They have driven humanity almost to madness.

The society has done something wrong with you, for certain reasons.

It wants you to be slaves, it wants you to be always afraid, it wants you to be always greedy, it wants you to be always ambitious, it wants you to be always competitive.

It wants you to be unloving, it wants you to be full of anger, violence and hatred, it wants you to remain weak, imitative, carbon copies forever seeking authoritative blind leaders.

That’s why your intelligence has been destroyed.

Meditation is needed to undo what the society has done.

Meditation is negative, it simply negates the damage, it destroys the illness, and once the illness has gone, your well-being asserts itself of its own accord.

Meditation is nothing but the undoing of that damage.

Meditation will not be needed at all if man is left alone.

If the priest and the politician do not interfere with man’s intelligence, there will be no need for any meditation.

Meditation is medicinal.

And it is not accidental that the words ‘medicine’ and ‘meditation’ come from the same root.

It is medicinal.

Intelligence is intrinsic to life.

Intelligence is a natural quality of life.

Intelligence is not an achievement, you are born intelligent.

In fact, what religions mean by God is only this, that the universe is intelligent, it is life itself.

Life is intelligence that is hidden everywhere.

And if you have eyes to see, you can see it everywhere.

Intelligence comes from seeing not thinking!

Intelligence is naturally rebellious.

Intelligence cannot be forced into any servitude.

Intelligence is very assertive, individual.

Intelligence cannot be converted into a mechanical imitation.

People have been converted to unconscious carbon copies, their originality has been destroyed, otherwise all the nonsense that has existed on the earth would be impossible.

N.A.T.O., you seek an absolutely fraudulent security for tomorrow, which cannot be guaranteed, it is not in the nature of life.

An intelligent person knows that it is not in the nature of life, the future remains open.

To ask for security for tomorrow means to remain in constant fear.

It is not possible, so fear cannot be destroyed.

Fear will be there, you will be trembling; and meanwhile the present moment is being missed.

With the desire of security in the future you are destroying the present, which is the only life available.

The Russians are not your problem… you are.

Before you destroy humanity….

Wake up!

“‘The Coalition Of Great Deceivers’ – Starmer, Macron, Carney, N.A.T.O, E.U, W.E.F, W.H.O, U.N… These are some of the ambitious yet truly retarded psychopaths who want to rule humanity, to dominate our world. They are dangerous, unhinged narcissists, who have created fear in you. … Intelligence cannot be converted into a mechanical imitation. … The Russians are not your problem… you are.”

My respects, but if your meditation has led you or helped you reach these conclusions, I will turn to another kind of meditation. Russia (the power in any form – state, private, or conditional, as socio-political influencers of all types, starting from the top with “Dugin and friends from the Izborsk Club” and reaching the bottom full of the so-called “turbo patriots”, the equivalent of the deep 4chan Q “truthers”) is actively joining the efforts to tear down the old and build-back-better new world, along with the ones you mentioned. They are 100% pro-UN, WEF and WHO. And especially the most persistent and consistent effort of theirs (of the relevant Russian “specialists”) for the very real transformation of the physical carrier of intelligence into a mechanical imitation (something as popular as “the satanic transhumanism of Schwab and Harari”) is particularly striking. (To mention only briefly.)

Headlessness is also helpful, and a tad easier than meditation:

The average person, while he thinks he is awake, actually is half asleep. By ‘half asleep’ I mean that his contact with reality is a very partial one; most of what he believes to be reality (outside or inside of himself) is a set of fictions which his mind constructs. He is aware of reality only to the degree to which his social functioning makes it necessary.

I believe I see – but I only see words; I believe I feel, but I only think feelings. The cerebrating person is the alienated person. Erich Fromm

Evaluating, taking responsibility, taking a stand, etc. are all difficult. Easier to follow propaganda, marketing, collective wisdom, tradition, rules of thumb, instinct, etc.

Thank you. Quite curious, I would say, but I’m not entirely sure it’s suitable for a person like me, who usually spends my free time watching football or recording MAGA rallies with beer and McDonald’s in hand. (But when I overindulge in beer, I’m also kind of headlessed if that counts as some resemblance to the activities of the colleagues in the recommended website?)

Ahh, football, MAGA, Mc Donalds and beer.

Dear CJ

You really have gone off half cocked here.

The really dangerous ones are the ‘appease Trump and Netanyahu jerk turds who think the pair of them are nut cases but play cute in public do they can keep earning £500k a year/month.

You know: BBC hierarchy; investment bankers; NATO tossers; Labour and Tory MPs (their £500k is mostly bings from lobbyists after all). Etc etc.

You and me get lambasted for calling Starmer et al a bunch of c**ksuckers (which they are) and Trump and Netanyahu a couple of c**ts (which they are), but just imagine if us calling Miriam Adelson ‘the most evil Jewish monster since Adolf’, calling Bill Gates ‘the biggest experimenter with death since Mengele’ (which might be a tad generous) or calling Smotrich ‘the most evil Finance in the history of humankind), eh?

But we’re just two loudmouths. It’s the 500 million unprincipled assholes who tell appeasing lies for a living that are the true threat to the human race.

PS don’t forward this to the CIA and MI6, it might really get me into trouble 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Rhys: Pertinent observations, although to be fair to CJ – It is relatively easy to be a moderate detracor (critique) when one hasn’t actually experienced the in-ya-face harrassment and/or persecution experiences of the writer. There are so many things which CJ has the gonads to publish, which others are petrified to even consider discussing, let alone publish. So, in this time of utter-madness, a hat-tip to the courageous ,,, we need everyone that we can get.
CJ … touche to you, Sir!!
Encore!

OK, the deportation thing could get a bit tricky in my case.

Out of Berlin? A blessing! Das Abendland goes in a black Night.

You don’t like the US, but Saudi Arabia or UAE would fit your bill, Iran even better. Anything anti-Israel. South Africa?
