Personally, I don’t know how much more greatness I can handle.
I mean, you got the Salvadoran gulag thing, the crackdown on free speech thing, the threats to suspend constitutional rights because of the latest “state of emergency” (i.e., the “invasion” of America by squads of “Tren de Aragua assassins” that Biden conspired with Maduro to unleash on God-fearing heterosexual white families), the luxury resort and theme park Trump wants to build on the ruins of Gaza once Israel gets done liquidating it, the Qatari “Trump Force One” jet, the Saudi weapons-deal money, the Silicon-Valley transhumanist guys, the neo-fascist “remigration” faction, the Musk Cult, and…well, I’m sure I’m leaving something out, but who can keep track of all this greatness?
But, seriously, I don’t know how much more great again America can be made at this point, unless they decide to go the whole hog and declare Trump “emperor.” Which, I wouldn’t put that past them … you know, just to “own the libs.”
OK, seriously seriously now, regarding the “emperor” thing, Matt Taibbi, in his latest column, Ode to Scum, compared Trump to Napoleon, and I thought that was a pretty good analogy.
Through insults to Popes and Kings he united every aristocratic faction in Europe to the point where after Waterloo, he was removed to an island in the middle of the ocean so he could no longer “disturb the peace of the world.” That was the world goal for Trump, whose similar crime was called “undermining the rules-based international order.”
I’ve written tons of essays about the global-capitalist empire’s reaction to the rise of Trump and the “populist” rebellion that started in 2016, many of which are published in two of my books, Trumpocalypse and The War on Populism, so you’ll understand if I don’t opine at length on the rules-based international order and all that again here.
The thing is, it isn’t 2016, or 2018, or even 2020 or 2022 anymore.
A lot has happened since the days when Trump was under attack as both a “Russian agent” and “literally Hitler.” Twitter has been bought and successfully whitewashed and rebranded as “free-speech X” by Elon Musk—the Military-Industrial-Complex-embedded transhumanist multi-billionaire who is literally a key member of the US government—and is now the meticulously visibility-filtered mouthpiece for MAGA and the international “populist” movement. It is an official propaganda organ more sophisticated and insidious than anything Orwell could have imagined.
The MAGA movement has joined forces with far-right ethno-nationalist movements and parties like the AfD here in Germany, and together they are fomenting racial hatred around the clock, and selling their hapless supporters pipe dreams of “the end of globalism,” the “rebirth of the sovereign nation-state,” or something … as if the global-capitalist empire were going to just surrender and wither up and die because Trump issued an executive order at it.
In short, the MAGA demographic and the ethno-nationalist right believe they have “won,” or are about to “win,” and they are power-drunk, and reckless, and appear to have forgotten how episodes like this end.
Some of us haven’t forgotten. To me, this was the key passage in Matt Taibbi’s piece.
Trump’s in the White House, but his power base is still mostly all voters, and I’m not sure his people are wrong to think they’ve got maybe a year to smash big law, academia, the media, the DC nomenklatura, the EU, and everything else on their shit list before those entities send the hammer right back. They’re probably also right that if Trump fails, we’ll be back to where we were at the moment of the record scratch seven months ago, staring at a more organized and cynical effort at authoritarianism, with more sophisticated plans for higher “guardrails.”
While I disagree with Matt about the “mostly all voters” nature of the MAGA power base, he’s right about there being a “Godzilla window” (i.e., a short period of time in which they can stomp around breathing fire and smashing “libtard” stuff, or at least pretending to do so). When that window closes, the “entities” (i.e., The Powers That Be) are going to bring their shit-hammer down on this MAGA/Musk/AfD “populist” rebellion in spectacular fashion … more or less as Israel is bringing it down on Gaza currently.
The Powers That Be are going to do that to send a message. The same message they are sending by liquidating Gaza. The same message they sent during the Covid era.
The message is: “This is what you get when you fuck with us.”
Unfortunately (or insidiously), the MAGA/Musk/AfD camp is playing exactly the role the Powers That Be need them to play. Like Hamas on October 7, they have become the “monster” The Powers That Be need in order to justify the “anti-extremist” shit-hammering to come.
Yes, the shit-hammering is coming. Not today, or tomorrow, but it is coming.
If you thought the “more organized and cynical effort at authoritarianism” that Matt referred to in his piece was bad during 2016-2020, or during the roll-out of the “New Normal” during 2020-2023 … well, I’m afraid you ain’t seen nothing yet. Just imagine the draconian “emergency measures” that The Powers That Be will be able to justify after two or three years of balls-out ethno-nationalist “greatness.”
And, no, sorry, but this is not “the end of globalism.” Neither America nor Germany nor any other sales region of the global-capitalist empire is going to be made “great” again. What’s going to happen is the empire is going to let the “populists” run amok, and make a big fucking mess, and scare the living shit out of the normals for as long as seems necessary, and then it is going to come down hard, on them, and on anyone else who looks funny … and by “funny,” I mean anyone who looks like an “extremist.”
So, if you are among that power-drunk MAGA demographic, congratulations! I hope you enjoy your Godzilla Window while it lasts, at least as much as those Hamas guys enjoyed their victory on October 7.

He never ceases to sneer at Elon Musk & so-called “populist” leaders as essentially part of the same “Globocap” authoritarian culture they purport to oppose. Yet further down this article he acknowledges that the Musk/populist crowd are in fact serious enough opposition to the powers that be that they are in line for a “shit-hammering” in the near future. The message is clear: the “global-capitalist empire” simply cannot be beaten.
I am just waiting for someone to reveal that Mr Hopkins is part of Globocap too, and fulfilling his role to perfection!
Does CJ Hopkins not understand that Trump and his MAGA cultists are setting the stage for the backlash he envisions? A year from now there will be no Constitutional protections left; foreign prisons will be an integral part of America’s judicial system; no one will be allowed to criticize anything – criticism will be re-defined as domestic terrorism; judges, juries, administrators, academics et al will be handmaidens of the Executive; plus a host of other authoritarian features near and dear to any Global-Capitalist regime’s heart.
The blowback Mr. Hopkins cites will not be AGAINST the MAGA hordes – it will be in concert with them.
How come there are jews, turks, other migrants living for a long time in Germany and people with homosexual preferences vote for AFD and even join the party? AFD was and is the only german party with a fairly critical view on the Corona-busines and the only party demanding a neutral investigation of the harm done to civil liberties and public health. Whereas parties like SPD, CDU, Greens and the Left prefer to continue as if nothing was wrong with this system. When AFD demanded peace talks in Ukraine there was an outcry in parliament coming from these warmongering parties, which have ample reasons to frame AFD into the far-right ethno-nationalist corner. With the final aim to ban the only party which is bound to uncover the crimes during corona and come back to a more neutral position in the Ukraine conflict. I have been following C.J. Hopkin´s fight in German courts regarding free speech and so I am now more than a bit disappointed that he seems to have fallen for the propaganda which mingles the term “remigration” (of illegal migrants and those who committed crimes) with ethno-nationalist motives.

For some reason i get the “gut feeling” that our UK govt/ptb are slowly ratchetting up the universal discontent to the point where they will impose full-on Martial Law. CJ Hopkins has become unreadable
Terminal TDS, it seems. So sad.
Those aren’t the words of a twitching Trump hater. His perspective is consistently applied, just the target has changed.
His warning about the retribution potentially – probably – awaiting anyone deemed extremist, including libertarians at any degree (classical liberal to voluntarist), MAGANs, Constitutional conservatives, and ‘truthers’, whenever the ‘left’ again takes the executive power is a reasonable one.
It might even happen before the ‘left’ are in power.
Yes, his position is a reasonable one. But obviously there’s some bias here and he simply cannot resist blaming brainwashed voters for their choice in the selection circus. He also seems really excited about “those MAGA people” being fooled but holds his fire for the rank stupidity of the “other side” who still smugly think they’re above reproach. While he keeps his focus on the censorship from “the right” he refuses to see, apparently, just how “the left” helped set the stage for it. While I can understand that sentiment from my past as a rabid Democrat, it isn’t helpful and does NOT get us to the point of dumping the partisan lens and seeing who the real enemy is, does it? Bashing on the right is the favorite sport of the left and back in my ignorant days I too enjoyed it immensely. But one grows out of childish things eventually, if one is willing to let go of the smug arrogance of a teenager who has all the answers and is so eager to school all the rest of a stupid humanity that does not see things the same way.
That was my point, though: I recall him being very critical of the left during c19, whether Labour, Democrats, whichever country. He’s clearly of the left himself, so I would agree there’s a different, more bitter tone when he references MAGANs, but I think he’s an equal opportunity critic.
Hopkins, like many truth tellers of the disaffected Left, is someone that I think sees things very clearly, and expresses himself sincerely, is generally correct in his broad assessments, but whose potential remedies for what he assesses I doubt I would like, having long ago abandoned any thoughts that centralized political power can ever be contained or managed by those that have nominally been deemed as consenting to be ‘governed’.
My guess is Mr. Hopkins still thinks the group of the governed might still somehow control its controllers were its members enlightened and engaged enough, but I’m persuaded that’s never happening, and cannot happen, by design.
Nevertheless, if I might not want to live in voluntary community with him, I probably wouldn’t mind living in a neighboring one. He’s fought a good fight, and been mightily hard done by for it, and I admire his courage and perseverance. I’d like to buy him a beer.
One of the biggest issues with Trump and MAGA is that they make such irresistible targets of scorn for those who have supposed leftist tendencies. To me that’s merely cheap and lazy. For a writer of his skill you would think he could let off the easy bashing of MAGA and stick to the real problem – that both fake sides are working on in essence the same exact agenda.
It’s like watching someone you know who damned well knows better keep babbling on and on, hurling nothing but cheap and easy insults at those they disagree with while ignoring the deeper issues you know they are fully capable of grasping. Extremely frustrating, particularly when you admire the person and their work, to see them stoop to the lowest common denominator of blaming voters who’ve been TRAINED for so long to pick sides in a farcical team sports mentality. It is beneath his dignity and intellect to continue producing this type of one-sided screed, IMHO.
As someone who still considers herself essentially “left” in so many ways, I am completely turned off by the smug arrogance of what pretends to be the Liberal Class. I understand more and more every time I hear some petty crap full of cheap MAGA insults why Liberals have been so hated by so many for so long. Quite frankly, it is exactly how we got the Trump voter. All it does is keep the divide and rule going, and that sure as hell ain’t helping any of us resist what’s coming.
You find Hopkins to be that way? He’s super critical of MAGA and MAGANs, but I find him much more nuanced than that, mainly noting that MAGANs now celebrate what they formerly and seemingly opposed now that their own guy and savior is back at the helm.
He knows that both/all sides are captured and in the service of the ownership class (the real problem), what he calls GloboCap. It’s mainly what he talks and writes about, in fact, as to fundamental causation.
I don’t share your leniency of assessment about the vast majority of people, ‘the trained.’ I think those people of the thundering herd are the problem, and I have watched my whole life their tendency to choose the lesser of any pair or set of choices. Whatever’s worse is what they choose, almost invariably.
It’s a phenomenal aspect of human nature. Fortunately, not everyone exhibits it.
Hopkins’ German tormentors are much more fascist-like than Trump, and hate Trump almost as much as Hopkins does. The Trump administration didn’t and wouldn’t end Hopkins’ human rights like the mad Germans are doing, but Hopkins still fears and hates Trump. Such is the power of TDS.
In the latest contribution to greatness, the Big, Beautiful Bill sponsored by the Boss makes it unlawful for states to regulate AI for 10 years. 😀
Its got some other goodies in there which are only coming to light. One tricky thing mentioned by a prominent lawyer is a provision to prevent any court, including SCOTUS, from imposing a contempt ruling on any case unless there was a bond included in that case. This is an obscure, almost meaningless, provision to most people but apparently because Federal cases rarely, if ever, require a bond this effectively removes the ability of Federal courts to find contempt — in other words, sanction any entity that disobeys them rendering them effectively powerless, especially against the Administration.
This is not “Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill”. Its a Trojan designed to entrench the ‘unitary executive’, a wet dream of many Republicans for decades now. The anodyne term ‘unitary executive’ is, of course, another way of saying ‘dictatorship’.
There’s probably a lot more lurking in there. You don’t just concoct 1100 page bills overnight. The tax cuts / dump on the poor / wealth transfer is really just noise used to disguise its real purpose.
Which in the end is apparently war, I hope you’ve got your stash safely placed.

Oh yes, if ones back far enough into history, you’ll find we’ve gone longer since the last MAJOR conflict than at any other point in history, and things have only gotten worse since then.
