Let’s talk about…DAVOS 2026
Yesterday saw the opening ceremony of the 2026 edition of the World Economic Forum’s annual summit in Davos. The first under the leadership of incoming co-chairman Larry “BlackRock” Fink.
This years “themes” are:
- How can we cooperate in a more contested world?
- How can we unlock new sources of growth?
- How can we better invest in people?
- How can we deploy innovation at scale and responsibly?
- How can we build prosperity within planetary boundaries?
…which all sounds rather blah, doesn’t it?
Outside these main themes, a browse through the topics menu will toss out repeated references to a couple of things: “regaining trust” which they’ve been talking about for years, and AI. Lots and lots of AI.
Regarding the former, the refrain is so tired I’m starting to think it’s almost coded language for something else. Regarding the latter, the intention seems to be to encourage both reliance on AI and fear of it. We can talk more about that as the week progresses.
Davos is always brilliant, the richest people in the world get together and listen to academic talks with titles like “Do Poor People Really Need ALL Their Organs?” or “How Sleep-Replacement Tech is Boosting Worker Efficiency”, then go off and eat a Michelin-starred lunch and never consider for a second they might be everything that’s wrong with the world.
But within that Hunger Games-like horror-decadence there is usually something interesting, early warning signs for the agenda down the road.
I haven’t seen anything new in that line, so far.
Maybe they’re being more cryptic than usual, or me more plodding in my pattern recognition. Or maybe they’ve noted the rather predictable potential downside of the revelation of the method.
That said, there are few titles of note that might be worth watching.
Given the recent announcements re: moon landings and (potential) aliens, “Beyond Earth – The Next Space Race” (Jan 22nd) might be an interesting listen.
And if you’re not slightly concerned by “Food @the edge”, which promises to discuss how “bold innovations will redefine the consumer experience, making food systems smarter, more sustainable and more equitable”, then you haven’t been paying attention.
But the most chilling title is the simply “Can We Afford Longevity?”
Oh Davos, never change.

Les vitrines d’un ordre moribond
Le WEF, L’ONU, l’OTAN, le FMI, l’OMS, l’OMC et l’édifice désormais assumé comme illégitime de l’Union européenne sont mobilisés comme les piliers officiels d’une véritable entreprise de gangstérisation du monde. Une architecture de pouvoir verrouillée, devenue totalement autoréférentielle, soutenue et sanctuarisée par des médias de propagande grassement subventionnés, dociles et largement subvertis. Présentées de manière fallacieuse comme des garantes de paix, de stabilité et de prospérité, ces structures ne servent en réalité que de paravent à la perpétuation d’un pouvoir ultra-concentré, opaque, hostile à toute contestation et obsédé par sa propre survie.
Ce système, piloté par une technocratie hors-sol désormais dopée à l’intelligence artificielle, se réinvente sans cesse non pour servir les peuples, mais pour prolonger son emprise tyrannique malgré l’accumulation accablante des preuves de ses forfaits. Leur légitimité est invoquée comme un dogme mais jamais démontrée. Leurs réformes sont annoncées à grand renfort de discours mais jamais engagées. La guerre en Ukraine y est encore présentée comme un conflit ouvert et indécis, alors même que son issue est désormais scellée, la Russie ayant très largement imposé sa victoire sur le terrain. La réalité est niée, maquillée, tordue pour justifier la prolongation artificielle d’agendas géopolitiques et financiers devenus intenables.
La prétendue “crise climatique”, quant à elle, est entretenue, amplifiée et instrumentalisée par les mêmes multinationales davosiennes qui pillent les ressources du monde, délocalisent leurs pollutions et asphyxient la planète tout en se posant en sauveurs autoproclamés. Ce récit sert avant tout de paravent à une fiscalité punitive, à la mise sous tutelle méthodique des populations et à l’érosion programmée des libertés, le tout dissimulé derrière une posture de vertu écologique de façade. Après avoir ravagé, pillé et saccagé sans retenue au nom du profit et de la croissance illimitée, ces pompiers pyromanes prétendent désormais éteindre l’incendie qu’ils ont eux-mêmes allumé, tout en présentant la facture de leurs méfaits et de leurs spoliations aux peuples qu’ils ont sacrifiés.
Enfin, l’intelligence artificielle est érigée en nouvel eldorado messianique, non pour libérer l’humanité, mais pour renforcer le contrôle des peuples, automatiser la surveillance et enfouir toujours davantage les circuits de corruption et de malversations financières sous des couches d’opacité technologique. L’argent numérique, présenté comme une modernité salvatrice, ne sert en réalité qu’à dépouiller davantage les peuples et les États de leurs économies, alors même que toutes les données qu’il manipule sont régulièrement pillées, stockées et exploitées dans des infrastructures incapables d’assurer la moindre sécurité ou intégrité.
Son aura d’innovation masque la réalité implacable que son modèle économique circulaire repose sur une consommation croissante d’énergie et d’eau, elle est incapable de produire ses propres matériels, dépendant entièrement de terres rares extraites à grands frais et souvent dans des conditions catastrophiques. L’intelligence artificielle, présentée comme l’avenir, n’est en vérité qu’un produit déjà mort-né, fragile et spéculatif, sur lequel ces mêmes élites comptent imposer leur domination avant qu’il n’éclate sous le poids de ses contradictions.
Aucune de ces crises n’est abordée dans l’optique d’une résolution sincère. So far the two statements that have come out of Davos that make some kind of sense both come from Mark Carney. One concerns the “old order” which has “ruptured” and is “not coming back”. The other is that countries like his need a seat at the table otherwise they’re going to be on the menu.
I’ve always interpreted shindigs like Davos as “How can we preserve the status quo (that’s made us obscenely rich) in the face of global opposition from the Great Unwashed?”. In other words, what platitudes can we spout and what’s the smallest bones we can throw to ensure that nothing really changes. Here I think that Trump has possibly done us a service. His naked aggression, vindictiveness and self-aggrandizement are so blatant that is burst the container — normally World Leaders are smart enough to keep the worst of their behavior under control and the media machine papers over the cracks for us. “Everything is Fine”, after all, its just a few malcontents that are rocking the boat. Now we can see it for the illusion it always was.
People tend to have short memories. We forget just how comfortable people of quality were with the fascists of the 1930s, how they allowed monsters to grow until it needed a global catastrophe to suppress them. There was a period after WW2 where people were enlightened en masse but a concerted campaign (plus, of course, the Big Bad Bugaboo of the East) saw their minds right, allowing Business As Usual by the 1950s. The question is, are we going to have to go through all this again? (This time in color, of course.)
As an older person the question for me is not “Can we afford longevity” but can we afford Davos?

The con they would have us believe is that a house that cost $200K 20 years ago is now worth a million because the alternative — the idea that money is worth a fifth of what it was 20 years ago — is just not the sort of idea you want spread about.)
