This Week in the New Normal #98
Facial recognition in supermarkets, police raids on church halls and transphobic toddlers.

Our successor to This Week in the Guardian, This Week in the New Normal is our weekly chart of the progress of autocracy, authoritarianism and economic restructuring around the world.
1. Facial Recognition in Supermarkets
In the UK recently we’ve been hearing a lot about the plague of shoplifting. In January, the BBC reported that shoplifters were “brazen and out of control”.
And today we found out why…
Today, Monday 31st March, Asda has begun trialling Live Facial Recognition at five stores in Greater Manchester to assess how this technology can be used to improve colleague and customer safety in store.
The trial comes at a time when retailers are facing an epidemic of retail crime. According to the BRC trade body, there are more than 2,000 incidents of violence and abuse against shopworkers every day – a threefold increase since 2020.
It’s always so predictable, isn’t it?
Sure, it’s just a trial in one city. But that’s just the beginning.
2. Quaking in their jackboots
The Metropolitan Police raided a Quaker meeting hall in force to arrest six women eating hummus. This is the world we live in now.
The meeting was being held by a group called Youth Demand, and was apparently to do with climate change and Palestine and…you know, the kind of thing youth political groups talk about while they eat their hummus.
The arrests were made by more than thirty officers, and the six women were charged with “suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance”.
The charge is bullshit, obviously. The raid is bullshit too. Honestly, “Youth Demand”, with their climate change action and hummus is, also, hilariously, bullshit. But it doesn’t matter if you agree with them, or if they even exist. As always, the precedent and principle are the problem.
3. It’s the eating bugs thing again
“Adjust your disgust”, says the headline of this piece in Aeon magazine. Adding in the subhead:
The future of food is nutritious and sustainable – if we can overcome our instinctual revulsion to insects and lab-grown meat”
I won’t bore you with the details, you already know them.
Meanwhile, in China, the annual meeting of top lawmakers discussed the need to “boost national biotech capacity and introduce a novel food framework”.
One official, in a statement to the National People’s Congress, expressed the need to “expand the boundaries of food resources” including “in-depth exploration, nutritional evaluation, and industrial production of alternative proteins”.
The pattern is repeating worldwide, quieter than a couple of years ago, but no less recognizable.
Bugs and goo, man. It’s gonna be bugs and goo all the way down.
BONUS: Ragebait of the week
A story doing the rounds right now is that a toddler was suspended from their nursery for being “transphobic”, and everyone is very cross. If you dig into the specifics of the story you find something very interesting…there aren’t any.
The toddler and school are unnamed. The supposedly offensive behaviour unspecified. It didn’t even happen this year – supposing it happened at all. It’s a statistic pulled from a report on all school suspensions in the 23/24 academic year.
And, like all statistics – most particularly government issued statistics – may be entirely made up. But that hasn’t stopped anyone being very cross.
It’s not all bad…
Some good news from the UK this week, where we might be seeing the highly controversial Assisted Dying bill delayed for a couple of years.
The pushback comes as the bill is subject to last-minute changes such as swapping out the judicial review for an expert panel and lowering the age limitations.
Personally, I think they need a new spokesperson. Kim Leadbetter comes over as callous and absurd whenever she speaks publicly, not least when she says the problem with assisted suicide and coercion is that families might wrongly coerce their relative into staying alive too long…
Kim Leadbeater claims that convincing a loved one not to take their own life is ‘coercion’. Seriously? 😧 pic.twitter.com/XBWMmQbMxE

All told a pretty hectic week for the new normal crowd, and we didn’t even mention new “studies” praising polyamorous couples or Javier Milei supposedly releasing all of Argentina’s documents concerning the NAZIs that fled there after WWII.

There’s a lot of change in the air, a lot of agendas in the works, if you see a headline, article, post or interview you think is a sign of the times, post it in the comments, email us or share it on social media and we will add it to the next edition.

“If you dig into the specifics of the story you find something very interesting…there aren’t any.”
This is true. I clicked on the bait and, behold, read a whole article – 100s of words – of which literally 0 explained / **even attempted to explain**, how this toddler expressed their transphobia.
How does such an article even get published??
i always get a bit suspicious when they say an unnamed school now i understand why you not name the pupil or a teacher but what possible reason would there be for not naming the school other than it doesn’t really exist

strictly speaking, if they hauled any sitting MP or Minister before a judge on charges of “suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance”, it would be an open and shut case
“Protein” is increasingly becoming a euphemism for powdered insects. They don’t emphasize the protein value of eggs or meat, they only do that when the actual source of protein needs to be downplayed. The two other buzzwords to push insect powder are “organic” and “sustainable”.
Caveat emptor.
Having my first cocktail of the afternoon as I started in. Fun. Always fun while reading the New Normal bit. Breath in. Breath out. I was attacked by a young Daily Wire groupie for pointing out the obvious. Kids are out there. Nuttier than hell. Socialism. Wow. I never would have figured it.
I’m very very “cross” with the business of suspending a toddler from school because of transphobia – in fact, I’m Mad As Hell that toddlers are sent to school at all! Let them shit their diapers in peace while they still can, for God sake.
I’m also Mad As Hell over the spurious term “lab grown” meat or dairy or whatever. It is not “grown,” it is concocted using cancer cells. Let’s call it by its right name: cancer grown.
And the poor innocent bugs – what can I say? The insect population has fallen by 80 to 90% supposedly (except for those who dismiss climate change as a hoax – they see a bug behind every tree). So now even bugs will have to be “lab grown.” BTW, I just watched an “In Search Of” episode from 1979 which featured long lived mice whose secret was the withholding of more than a bare minimum of Protein. And isn’t Protein supposed to be the great benefit of eating bugs? (Don’t tell that to the ancient mice.)
Visited clothing several shops to be told the changing room is no longer in use due to..?
Pre this it was covid.
fuck em.
Shoplifting, probably.

I’m guessing, the need to keep Argentina, Israel sweet is in the offing.
I suppose it’s a bit like Israel telling Germany to support us or we’ll make ‘right of return’ back to Germany a living hell for your country.
“. …. or we’ll make ‘right of return’ back to Germany a living hell for your country.”
They already have been doing that. Berlin and several other cities are veritable shit holes.

Geoengineering has made “nature” a dangerous place for man and beast and tree. For a long time now Dane Wigington has spoken of the dead and dying trees in Northern California because of the solar radiation management spraying and its devastating effect on the natural world.
I hesitated to accept that – until this year. The die-off has finally hit the Mid-Atlantic (at least Maryland). I’ve been noticing lots of dead, dying and fallen trees in the forested areas where I live.
Nature is under assault – not just people.
Solar radiation management?
Yes, an actual term for an actual process used today. And I believe you can still look that up under that term as well as Strategic Aerosol Injection. Not sure if patents for it can be seen when looking up those terms but they are patented processes.

This week, I’m announcing my candidacy for Congress, founded on a bold and daring platform inspired by Representative Booker’s record-smashing filibuster. Here’s The Math:
Rep. Booker—praise be his name—spoke for 25 hours and 5 minutes, which equals 1,505 minutes, or 90,300 seconds. Using the 26 letters of the alphabet as a timing device, and allotting 2 seconds per letter, it will take 52 seconds to recite the full alphabet once. Dividing 90,300 seconds by 52 = 1,736.54.
Therefore, I promise to all who join with me in this endeavor that my campaign will center on preparing for and delivering a single, heroic, tour de force stump-winder consisting of 1,737 consecutive alphabet recitations. This will total 90,324 seconds, and once achieved will triumphantly eclipse Booker’s mark by 24 seconds.
This unparalleled feat in our nation’s history will send a clear message to every American—from Greenland to Panama—regardless of gender affiliation or whether they are vaxxed, masked, or criminally insane:
We the People have entered a new era of freedom wars, destined to deliver lasting prosperity to all who perpetuate them for the next thousand years.

Facial recognition trial: Let’s boycott these stores, then. Our Australian hardware mega-store here trialled this tech and people protested and presumably wrote to the privacy commissioner, and said agency supposedly stopped it. Can we trust this?
The story about the hummus eaters’ arrest at the Quakers’ meeting goes a little differently: No hummus eating was cited in the article but the stated reason for the arrests was “concerns about plans” to shut down London using tactics such as road blocks. So, you could say this is a story about our future of pre-crime policing.
BTW, don’t Quakers eat oats?
As a vegan, I’m free to continue eating my hummus. No bugs for me!
That section about Kim Leadbetter is just perverse. They certainly need an even better leader. And butt the hell out of family talk.
Funny toon! A little bit gross but effective in its messaging.
I came across a link claiming something harmful in Quaker. This is common in trusted brands taken over to maintain the illusion of competition.
Plant growth promoter chlormequat contaminates grains, especially oats, and may harm reproduction. 90% of US people tested had it in their urine.
The frenzy over eating bugs is partly to kill off safe small-scale local farming and independence from human parasites. Organic agriculture requires the use of animal sewage; the 2 types of farming go together.
Just buy organic rolled oats. No need for a brand name.

The “New Germany”? It is apparent that the “liberal” v “conservative” false binary of Western fraudulent “democracy”, has flywheeled each each side into fascism. The supposed woke/politically correct totalitarianism v the openly cruel and brutal totalitarianism. And in 2025 this is all THEIR SYSTEM has to offer. The collapse, already in 24 year drawdown, is in it’s spectacle finale.

At least I didn’t. “Special friends.” Ha!
There is little chance of bringing down or exploiting Russia. except in Think-Tank-Land dreams, as the past 2 decades showed. The main target was and is Germany. The traitors leading it were aware of the impending destruction of Nord Stream. Enough said.

It is interesting that the plague of shoplifting that Britain is now suffering comes in the wake of the same plague in the US. It also seems to be affecting other Western countries too. All by design.
Most shoplifting is carried out by a tiny proportion of repeat offenders who the courts fail to sentence properly and the police can’t be bothered to arrest. Especially as shoplifting has effectively been decriminalised below a certain value threshold that has been raised, encouraging shoplifting further.
There is no need for facial ID cameras, since the thieves will not be prosecuted anyway. Most are already known faces to store and security staff, since they do it day in and day out.
Before this latest surge of mass pilfering in Britain – historically the worst country for thieving – the cost to honest shoppers was approximately a 10 percent surcharge levied on the price of all items in store to cover theft.
The US has lost control as planned, that in some city stores most everything not nailed down was already being locked up in cabinets two years ago.
https://nypost.com/2023/06/02/shoplifting-crisis-is-so-bad-shoppers-struggling-to-find-non-locked-up-items/

Billy bullshit above.
As an advocate who works along side the police, community police and town support and pub and club watch and shop watch along side NA CA AA fellowships.
The old-bill is on it and people get arrested and charged.
The courts are bullied due to the propaganda you shill to give severe sentences and fines.
Advocate of what, shoplifting?
Utter bollocks. Ever sat in Magistrates Courts, and listened to the cases? Anyone can do it, the fines are a joke and very few custodial sentences are given and where given, are weeks in length, not even months.
Look at the sentencing guidlines. Most will fall into the fine category, or community sentencing due to being Category 3 offences (upto £200 value stolen)
https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magistrates-court/item/theft-from-a-shop-or-stall/
It is the same repeat offenders who leave court to reoffend. If the courts were doing their job, shoplifting would not be on the increase.
Shoplifting comprises organised professional gangs, others who steal to order and those who are petty opportunists including those with addictions.
It is small businesses that suffer most, since they cannot pass the costs onto the customer or absorb it, whereas larger chains and multinationals can.
https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business-insurance/impact-retail-theft-on-small-businesses/
Of course, you don’t give a shit, because you hate anyone not living in poverty.
You are supporting the death of the High Street and independent retailers, already struggling due to online competition, high business rates, expensive parking and now more shoplifting.

You don’t work alongside the police, you interfere with their work.
And while I *HAVE* learned to despise the police and “justice” system in recent years, I can also see that you are obstructing them in a rare instance when they are doing some good for society.
The best way to avoid severe sentences and fines is to not be a thieving scrote.
This is where we end up after many decades of management consultants, improvements and related purchases. All because insane people at the top want to reduce dependence on reliable skilled people, as well as their wages.
That aspect is true, but supermarkets have had a perverse decades-long obsession with tracking what individuals buy. Tesco Clubcard was probably the first big example here, but I doubt they were the first. They claimed this information helped them be more profitable, but I don’t see how. There was a documentary about it, it definitely wasn’t just about encouraging customer loyalty. Knowing what individuals bought was the primary focus.
It just didn’t add up, unless there was/is a sinister ulterior motive.

Facial recognition was “trialed” by Co-op in 2021, it was still in their Skegness store in 2024.
The BBC reported
In 2024 a Co-OP director, Matt Hood:
The apparent dichotomy in those statements is because different Co-Op Groups, Southern, Central, and East of England, are all independant of “The Co-Op Group”.
Extra points if you noticed the role 3P (Public Private Partnership) plays in Facial Recognition rollout, since it’s “Unlawful” for the Police to use it, but it’s all fine and dandy for private business to use it to…. aid the police.
In July 2022, Big Brother Watch filed a legal complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office against the Southern Co-op and Facewatch over the supermarket’s use of Facewatch’s live facial recognition software in its stores. FaceWatch is a UK-based start up that also provides the technology to the Frasers Group (Sports Direct, House of Fraser etc.).
The ICO advised Facewatch that 8 seperate articles of Data protection legislation had been breached.
Result: After some finger wagging and recomendations, the ICO said that “no further regulatory action is required.”
Now Facewatch claims “ICO Judgement Clears the Way for Facewatch” with the ICO’s logo on it’s marketing posters.
I’ve never used any Fraser group brands, but the Co-op definately lost a customer, and now ASDA has joined themon my boycot list too.
Mike Ashley the owner of Sports Direct took over a struggling House of Fraser in 2018. Once a fairly decent store, its reputation hasn’t recovered since his takeover.
Ashley has been accussed of running ‘Victorian workhouses’ at his Sports Direct warehouses and failing to pay the minimum wage among other practices.
Things were so bad that in 2016 a Select Committee group of MPs actually did something useful, and wrote a scathing report on the subject.

Facewatch Q&A
What is Facewatch?
Facewatch is the first online crime reporting and communications system using social media and mobile tools to enable the public, businesses and the police to work together to beat crime.
What makes Facewatch different and unique?
Facewatch provides a single cloud based resource that enables suspects’ images, moving CCTV evidence and paperless automated witness statements to be uploaded by businesses to the police through one simple interface via any internet connected device. This open system approach gives businesses, the public and the police an open but highly secure platform to enable faster and more effective crime management and communications.
What success has Facewatch currently had?
Facewatch is the only system to have been awarded gained the ‘Approved Secured by Design’ status. Secured by Design is the official UK Police flagship initiative supporting the principles of ‘designing out crime’.
Facewatch was launched in early 2010 and is fully operational in London; it has 6,000 current business users. The system is in the process of being rolled out to all police forces across the UK.
What other products have been developed by the organisation?
Facewatch launched a mobile phone App (Facewatch ID) in partnership with the MET police and British Transport Police in June 2012 to enable the public to identify images of suspects by postcode in the London area. There have been over 63,000 downloads of the App and 8m image views already with hundreds of ID’s. The App is now being made available to all Police forces and has recently been launched in Surrey and Northampton with more to follow shortly.
A communications portal to enable London Hotels to share security information during the Olympic Games was successfully launched and is now an established resource for the London Hotel community. Facewatch will be used as part of the Olympic communictions hub legacy strategy for all sectors across the UK.
What changes does Facewatch make to society?
Trials in London have shown that Facewatch acts as a strong deterrent to low level crime. Police are able to view CCTV evidence instantly and information can be shared between businesses instantly. Police will save hundreds of millions of pounds of wasted administrative time so they can concentrate on catching and prosecuting offenders.
At its heart Facewatch creates online communities that work together to improve our safety and security.
What are the next steps?
Facewatch continues to develop crime reporting solutions using the most appropriate technology and will be announcing further new products in the UK.
From track n trace to QR scan code.

Flu season has arrived in aUStralia.
‘Last year, Australia had more than 365,000 reported influenza cases in total and more than 4,200 people admitted to hospital, making it Australia’s biggest flu season since 2019.‘
Funny though: almost no flu cases between 2020 and 2022.

I was disappointed to see no mention of hummus or at least tofu. Although, it was the BBC and the satire would have been lost on them.
I thought perhaps they were arrested for wanting real Palestinian hummus and not the stuff that passes for hummus in the likes of Asda. Had it happened in Manchester and not London, two stories could have been shoehorned into one, and they could have been arrested for stealing the hummus which the facial recognition cameras would have caught them on.
Arresting climate activists seems a bit odd even if they are in support of Palestinians too. Maybe, since their mission statement is:
“raising money from “the super rich and fossil fuel elite” to pay damages for the effects of fossil fuel burning.”
Had they said their mission is “to freeze old people to death, let the plebs eat bugz and make them walk everywhere” then they would have been better aligned with Extinction Rebellion and the other astroturf climate groups.
🙂
Palestinian humous is vastly superior to Israeli, for example, although Egyptian’s not bad. In 95 my second apprentice and I got a state-of-the-art workshop in humous/tahaina production from our favourite stall in the Old City of Jerusalem/Al Quds, near the Holy sites.
Even more funny is their “fossil” dinosaur fuel elite concept.
I mean at least our oil producers do a hard work in the North Sea and other places to provide gasoline to our 4-wheels and 2-wheels and heat up our ice cold homes.
A bunch of wagging poodles to Carney and Big Finance’s Clima scam is what they are, and excuse me but they deserve to be arrested and taste a jail from within a couple of days or two, and Gaza should not be used as an excuse.
Regarding the supermarket facial recognition. As usual Australia is leading the world in being Hell. With supermarkets simply detaining/locking in whoever whenever they like. Thereafter something about theft and keeping you safe
Before anyone wastes energy wondering about the ‘legalities’ of illegal detainment or false imprisonment…cast your mind back to COVID. We know what the law is who it harms and who it helps and when it’s real and when it’s complicated but one thing for sure it isn’t for ordinary people who shop for food.

I guess Coles customers will meet their carbon targets soon
Fly buys AND Pic Bys.
Welcome to the age of Big Mutha.
Already going on in NZ as well. They brought it in under the guise of “trialling”, but now all the supermarkets are doing it.
In the UK the so called rules were ultimately guidance as per gov.uk website. Common sense should have applied but most people lost it.

The more absurd it gets, the better.

In the event folks haven’t seen it a massive timeline project can be found here:
Timeline to Covid Tyranny – Part One: Constructing the Biosecurity Empire (1999–2018)
“The processes that led to the covid tyranny have not been properly revealed for what they are. Indeed, they are still in motion. The notion that we are out of the woods is an illusion. All the administrative, legislative, and financial infrastructure built before and during the covid era is intact. Thus, emergency countermeasures could return with the flip of the switch. We could once again be forced to bear the brunt of draconian decrees and repressive measures mandated by public health authorities.
For these reasons, it is vital we not forget what happened in the years 2020 through 2023. We must understand the covid campaign was not an isolated episode but, rather, a highly organized undertaking disguised as a public health emergency. This multi-faceted structural event was the culmination of the Deep State’s decades-old determination to institute a raft of invasive policies—including the worldwide suspension of basic civil liberties—to salvage their crumbling financial empire and usher in a complete transformation of society.”

Timeline to Covid Tyranny – Part Two: The Year 2019 and The Coming Storm
“INTRODUCTION- Appreciating the full impact of the covid “shock and awe” campaign requires an understanding of not only the extensive planning that went into constructing the massive pandemic machine but also an awareness of how today’s healthcare management systems are being exploited to funnel trillions of dollars into the coffers of the world’s banker barons, pharmaceutical industry, and global ruling elites.
Put another way, without an external threat like a “killer virus,” without the Covid-19 smokescreen, this massive financial collapse and historic wealth transfer would be seen for what it was: colossal theft by the ruling aristocracy of financial fraudsters.
…
As I wrote in my January 2, 2023, article for Off-Guardian, “That’s the coup: global hyperinflation to vaporize the assets of the masses and the states in order to hand over public assets to private investors. This allows the ruling class to mop up properties (bankrupted small businesses, foreclosed homes, etc.) in order to stake limitless claims on everything in the world.”

Part Three will cover the 2020 “shock and awe” campaign of Covid-19 in great detail.
I believe it’s safe to assume that the covid exercise achieved everything it was designed to achieve, and more. And that there are many more follow-up steps and building blocks in the pipeline. For now, the protagonists have dispersed to their comfy retirements and Stanford fellowships. The media is even acknowledging injuries and other harmful effects. But the agenda hasn’t gone away. And 80% of the populace will once again mask up with relish if their morning TV hosts tell them to.
Thanks Maxwell.
A brilliant resource.
Amazing. You have brought an entirely new meaning to the old press adage ‘read ’em and WEEP.’ But how will you get the people who need to read this fully comprehensive destruction of the covid fantasies and myths, the vast political and financial skulduggery, intrigues and swindles behind the scenes and in plain sight to do so?
No, it was the other way round. That is, the insiders knew that a “pandemic” scam was going to be launched straight after Davos 2020 – the purpose being to remove Trump. As a consequence of this fore-knowledge, the market got jittery.
Excellent stuff going all the way back to 1999. And “mad cow disease”. Ues I’d forgotten that one. Another one that was going to have “devastating effects” which never happened but probably put God knows how many farmers out of business.
Kinda makes you wonder if the news ever told the news about anything.
Ues should be Yes.
