Obama’s Sanctions against Moscow “Intended to Box In Donald Trump”: Evidence that Hacking of DNC Accusations are Fake

by Prof. Michael Chossudovsky at Global Research, Dec. 30 2016 President Obama in the course of his last few weeks in the White House has ordered several retaliatory actions against Russia, on the grounds that Moscow was in involved in the hacking of the Democratic Party National Committee (DNC) with a view to influencing the outcome of the US presidential elections in favor of Donald Trump. The sweeping measures taken by Obama on December 29 consist in imposing sanctions on Russia’s intelligence services as well as requiring the departure of 35 Russian diplomats “suspected of being spies” from the US as well the shut down of two Russian compounds in Maryland and New York. According to NBC, the December 29 sanctions on Russia constitute “an assertive act by President Obama to punish Russia before he leaves office.” The unspoken truth, however, is that the punishment was intended for Trump. Whereas the sanctions were directed against Russia, the ultimate intent was to undermine the legitimacy of president-elect Donald Trump and his foreign policy stance in relation to Moscow.  According …

Jill Stein for Hillary

by Stephen Lendman Shameful! What’s going on? Why did her campaign announce its “intent to file for a recount of votes in the battleground states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, leading a multi-partisan effort to check the accuracy of the machine-counted vote tallies in these states in order to ensure the integrity of our election?” Did she forget Hillary criticizing Trump’s possible refusal to accept electoral results when asked, calling it “a direct threat to our democracy?” Does she support what war goddess, racketeer, perjurer Hillary stands for? Does she oppose Trump wanting normalized relations with Russia – crucial to prevent the threat of possible nuclear war with Hillary empowered as US military commander-in-chief. I supported Stein, believed in her, wrote glowing articles about her campaign, her advocacy for world peace, equity and justice. Was I wrong? Did I misjudge her? Is she against what she claims to stand for? Many times in articles I called Hillary the most ruthlessly dangerous presidential aspirant in US history. Does Stein support her? Want the election reversed in …

Why Both Clinton & Trump Are Corrupt

by Eric Zuesse, originally posted at strategic-culture.org In order to overcome the partisanship on both sides of this U.S. Presidential contest, the corruption of both of the candidates needs to be acknowledged, and a quick way to do that is to consider the cases of their respective charities (we’ll go beyond that to a broader view afterward): On September 10th, David A. Farenthold headlined in the Washington Post, “How Donald Trump retooled his charity to spend other people’s money”, and he documented that Trump has lied in his many statements asserting that he donates lots to charities, and that he has even used his (actually meager) Foundation as a device to collect donations from others and then simply donate that money from others, to other charities as being “charitable donations by the Trump Foundation”; he even has sometimes used donations others had made to his ‘Charity’ in order to purchase things for some of his own businesses. So: not only is his ‘charity’ meager, but it consists largely of the charity of others — and …

Washington Tries to Break BRICS – Rape of Brazil Begins

by F. William Engdahl, from New Eastern Outlook Washington’s regime change machinery has for the time being succeeded in removing an important link in the alliance of large emerging nations by railroading through a Senate impeachment of the duly elected President, Dilma Rousseff. On August 31 her Vice President Michel Temer was sworn in as President. In his first speech as president, the cynical Temer called for a government of “national salvation,” asking for the trust of the Brazilian people. He indicated plans to reform, and has also signaled his intention to overhaul the pension system and labor laws, and cut public spending, all themes beloved of Wall Street banks, of the International Monetary Fund and their Washington Consensus. Now after less than three weeks at the job, Temer has unveiled plans for wholesale privatization of Brazil’s crown jewels, starting with oil. The planned Wall Street rape of Brazil is about to begin. It’s important to keep in mind that elected President Rousseff was not convicted or even formally charged with any concrete act of …

Hillary Clinton’s Record: An American Horror Story

by Timothy Scott, Mythos This essay documents Hillary Clinton’s history and record as an agent of Wall Street, war, racial violence and inequity, economic inequality and conservative ideology. While Clinton’s early Republican Party history is well documented, it is unfair to judge her (or anyone) based on the political views of her youth. Like Clinton, all people are heavily influenced by the beliefs and values of their parents, local communities, religion, cultural and social identities as well as US dominant culture. Based on various factors, many people with conservative backgrounds are able to develop progressive and humanistic world views over time based on personal struggle, a capacity for empathy, and an expanded sense of consciousness through education and life experience. None of this appears to have happened for Hillary Clinton. Instead, she stayed the course as she and her husband pioneered the “New Democrat” (Centrist Democrats) movement and steered the party toward a neoliberal “Third Way” (dogmatic free-market and moderately liberal social policies). Yet, when it comes to the Clintons, many of their social policy …

A Decade of Evidence Demonstrates The Dramatic Failure Of Globalisation

by Graham Vanbergen, TruePublica According to wikipedia, globalisation is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas and other aspects of culture.  However, over the last ten years there has been a sea change decline in all the indicators that would measure the success of this model.  Democracy, economic growth, freedom and an interchange of world views and culture has all but been abandoned to a vice like grip of globalisation driven more  by the corporate principles of power and greed resulting in war, terrorism, a biblical refugee crisis, fear and a fully co-opted media. The Economist has just published its annual index on democracy.  They found that out of 167 countries, only twenty are “full democracie s”. Less than 13 per cent of the world’s countries can now claim to be a democracy.  Given that America has graciously forced so much democracy on the world, one could be forgiven for thinking all is not well. In the meantime, Freedom House have published their annual Freedom Index that makes for just as sobering reading. It found that …

Barroso and Goldman Sachs – a dangerous liaison

Revolving Doors, Corporate Europe Observatory, July 19, 2016 The news that José Manuel Barroso will become non-executive chairman at Goldman Sachs did not exactly come as a surprise.  This is a man who presided over the European Commission for 10 years and, from the beginning, his leadership followed a corporate agenda, with its close links to the biggest businesses and banks in the EU representing a key trait of the current European project. But this one move has catapulted the EU’s revolving door problem onto the political agenda, causing widespread jaw-dropping and reactions of disbelief, making it a symbol of excessive corporate influence at the highest levels of the EU. Corporate Europe Observatory had already mapped Barroso’s numerous career moves in the months following the end of his term as Commission president. Since Autumn 2014, his 20+ new roles have taken him into the arts, academia and to the corporate lobbyfests of the European Business Summit and the Bilderberg Conference.  Our detailed report from October last year highlighted Barroso’s positions, as well as the roles …

Russia Won’t Hack US Voting Machines, That’s America’s Job

by Eric Draitser, for New Eastern Outlook With the Democratic National Convention in high gear, the corporate media has inundated the television and computer screens of American voters with endless accusations of Russian meddling in US electoral politics.  Democrats have conveniently chosen to deflect attention away from their own criminality – the Wikileaks release of official Democratic Party communications revealed collusion against Bernie Sanders, among myriad other crimes and unethical behavior – by making the story about Russia hacking DNC servers.  But the reality is that the emails show just how controlled and undemocratic the ironically named Democratic Party, and the US political system in general, truly is. But the corporate media, whose job it is to run interference for the establishment thereby providing invaluable service to its elite patrons, has now gone even further by planting in the public consciousness the narrative that the Kremlin intends to hack US voting machines in a further indication of the depravity of the Mephistopheles of Moscow, Vladimir Putin.  Indeed, it seems that the Russians are the real …

America’s Oligarchs Support Clinton Almost Unanimously

by Eric Zuesse The results are already in, even before the official campaign-finance final figures will become available after the election. Though a large percentage of the people funding the campaign advertising will never be made public — due to recent Supreme Court decisions allowing “dark money” — data already exist on the final product of the campaigns (including both the above-board and the dark money), which is the booked advertising time for each of the two candidates at the start of their campaigns. (Similar proportions of donations go also to get-out-the-vote and other campaign-activities; so, these booked-advertising figures correlate rather well with across-the-board funding of the two campaigns.) Advertising rates — the charges per second of air-time — get higher and higher the later and closer to Election Day the time is booked; so, any candidate who books late is really starved for funds and has little chance of winning; any candidate who does the booking early is getting a big break from the networks and from certain other media. This discount, for early …

Justifiable Trump Concerns About Election Rigging

by Stephen Lendman He’s the unexpected GOP nominee, an outlier, Hillary the establishment candidate. She’s Wall Street’s favorite, paid millions of dollars in speaking fees in return for serving the interests of banking giants and other major financial interests if “elected” – bribes by any standard. She’s an anti-populist, war goddess, she devil beholden to what makes America the most reviled, feared nation on earth. At a Monday Columbus, Ohio rally, Trump said “I’m afraid the election is going to be rigged. I have to be honest.” Later Monday evening on Fox News, he repeated the charge, saying “November 8th, we’d better be careful because that election is going to be rigged. And I hope Republicans are watching closely or it’s going to be taken away from us.” Trump confidante Roger Stone elaborated, saying “I think we have widespread voter fraud, but the first thing Trump needs to do is begin talking about it constantly.” “He needs to say for example, today would be a perfect example: ‘I am leading in Florida. The polls all …

Olympics Used as a Cold War Tool

by Margaret Kimberley, Freedom Rider The United States and its allies are determined to wage war by other means against the Russian Federation. Ever since the fall of the Soviet Union NATO has encroached further and further and is now on Russia’s doorstep, surrounding it with member states. In 2014 the United States instigated a coup against the elected government of Ukraine and in response the Russian Federation annexed Crimea with its citizens’ support in order to protect itself from any possible military action. The imposition of sanctions, the expulsion of Russia from the G8 group, attacks upon Russian allied nations such as Syria, and the Saudi/United States connivance to lower the price of oil have all been used to inflict the maximum amount of damage. The western corporate media have played their obedient role and repeat every government slander against Russia. First president Vladimir Putin is demonized, then the entire country. They now refer to “Putin’s Russia” to insure that both the leader and his people are disregarded and considered unworthy of any human …

My Fellow Americans: We Are Fools

by Margot Kidder, via Information Clearinghouse There is something I am going to try and explain here after watching the Democratic National Convention this evening that will invite the scorn of many of my friends.  But the words are gagging my throat and my stomach is twisted and sick and I have to vomit this out.  The anti-Americanism in me is about to explode and land god knows where as my rage is well beyond reason.  And I, by heritage, half American in a way that makes me “more” American than almost anyone else in this country except for the true Americans, the American Indians, am in utter denial tonight that I am, as you are, American as well. I am half Canadian, I was brought up there, with very different values than you Americans hold, and tonight — after the endless spit ups and boasts and rants about the greatness of American militarism, and praise for American military strength, and boasts about wiping out ISIS, and America being the strongest country on earth, and an utterly …

Independents And Jill Stein Won The Democratic National Convention

by Rob Cotton, via Twist the Knife The Democratic National Convention, being little more than a dismal, choreographed vision into the bleak abyss of our Neoliberal future, will be remembered as a footnote to the real convention that took place on the streets, on the Internet, and in the homes, apartments, restaurants, bars, and other various meeting places in our nation: the convention to defy to the conventional ‘wisdom’ of the Democratic Party elite and forge a new and better path for ourselves. When Bernie Sanders delegates started chanting “no more wars” at the Democratic National Convention, party loyalists drowned them out with a counter-chant of “U-S-A” and the organizers of the convention apparently filtered in white noise to muffle their voices.  The implications could not be more obvious: the Democratic Party is officially all about war.  Of course, Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama’s war record already tells us that.  The war criminal in chief has bombed almost double the number of countries that George W Bush bombed. Democrats care (about power and wealth). …

How Clinton Lost the Nomination

by Charlie Musgrove | 7/28/2016 Yes, as we are all too aware, Hillary Clinton was officially anointed this week as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee for the upcoming election. She was chosen by the party to be its nominee long before the race ever began, and it used every means at its disposal, both in plain sight and behind closed doors, to ensure that nothing – least of all the will of the people – would prevent that from happening. Yet even though she may have won the title, she lost any moral legitimacy to the position that the title represents. It is a shameful, hollow victory; one that has stained the democratic process in its callous and brazen willingness to subvert that very process by whatever means necessary in order to triumph. Her campaign’s collusion with the DNC (not to mention her corporate media allies, lobbyists and tech industry cohorts) to undermine Senator Sanders’ bid for the nomination – to any rational, thinking person who’d paid even the slightest bit of attention to the …

Making a Killing: The 1.2 Billion Euros Arms Pipeline to Middle East

by Lawrence Marzouk, Ivan Angelovski and Miranda Patrucic via Balkan Insight An unprecedented flow of weapons from Central and Eastern Europe is flooding the battlefields of the Middle East. As Belgrade slept on the night of November 28, 2015, the giant turbofan engines of a Belarusian Ruby Star Ilyushin II-76 cargo plane roared into life, its hull laden with arms destined for faraway conflicts. Rising from the tarmac of Nikola Tesla airport, the hulking aircraft pierced the Serbian mist to head towards Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It was one of at least 68 flights that in just 13 months transported weapons and ammunition to Middle Eastern states and Turkey which, in turn, funnelled arms into brutal civil wars in Syria and Yemen, the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN, and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, OCCRP, has found. The flights form just a small part of €1.2 billion in arms deals between the countries since 2012, when parts of the Arab Spring turned into an armed conflict. Meanwhile, over the past two years, as thousands …

Corbyn -- our future

Corbyn has no mates… in the lobbying business

by Tamasin Cave, for Spinwatch There couldn’t be a more stark illustration of what is wrong with our current political system – and why Jeremy Corbyn might break the mould – than this: the UK’s commercial lobbyists are in a huff because, for once (in the last 20 years, at least), they don’t have privileged access to the new Labour leader. Lobbyists are used to having an inside track with politicians. They are paid to have relationships with, if not the politician, then their circle of advisors and allies. With Corbyn, they don’t. This poses a problem for them and their clients. It’s how they get their information and influence. To be clear, there are obviously lobbyists that do have a direct line to camp Corbyn, notably some unions and a select group of NGOs and campaigners. What we’re talking about here, though, is the for-profit lobbyists-for-hire. These political players, who work mainly for corporations, are a key part of the reason why 60 per cent of people in the UK think our government is …

“If the FBI doesn’t recommend charges, then she didn’t break any law.”

by Eric Zuesse That seems to be the opinion of the majority of reader-comments at Reddit. In response to an article that presented six U.S. criminal laws which clearly describe the  basic aspect of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email operation, and some of which U.S. laws specify up to 20 years imprisonment for it [reposted here], the overwhelming opinion of commenters at Reddit has been that if the FBI doesn’t recommend that the case regarding Clinton be pursued in court, then she should be (for all intents and purposes) considered and treated by voters to be innocent in the matter. The Reddit-commenters were commenting upon an article which opened by noting that these six laws were only the laws that describe the most basic aspects of what she unquestionably did — not necessarily all of the laws that she might be charged with breaking by her email operation.  It was an article I wrote.  Its opening said: “This is not an exclusive list, nor does it relate to charges that might possibly be made against Ms. …

Hillary Clinton’s Email Operation Violated At Least Six U.S. Criminal Laws

by Eric Zuesse, via rinf.com This is not an exclusive list, nor does it relate to charges that might possibly be made against Ms. Clinton on grounds other than the unquestionable and basic ground that she moved all of her State Department email operation to a private and non-secured computer outside the State Department, and then attempted to destroy the record of those emails. Here are the six criminal laws of that type, which, I here allege, she clearly broke: 18 U.S. Code § 2232 — Destruction or removal of property to prevent seizure (a) Destruction or Removal of Property To Prevent Seizure Whoever, before, during, or after any search for or seizure of property by any person authorized to make such search or seizure, knowingly destroys, damages, wastes, disposes of, transfers, or otherwise takes any action, or knowingly attempts to destroy, damage, waste, dispose of, transfer, or otherwise take any action, for the purpose of preventing or impairing the Government’s lawful authority to take such property into its custody or control or to continue holding such property under its lawful …

democracy is dead

The Collapse of Western Democracy

by Paul Craig Roberts Democracy no longer exists in the West. In the US powerful private interest groups, such as the military-security complex, Wall Street, the Israel Lobby, agribusiness and the extractive industries of energy, timber and mining, have long exercised more control over government than the people. But now even the semblance of democracy has been abandoned. In the US Donald Trump has won the Republican presidential nomination. However, Republican convention delegates are plotting to deny Trump the nomination that the people have voted him. The Republican political establishment is showing an unwillingness to accept democratic outcomes. The people chose, but their choice is unacceptable to the establishment which intends to substitute its choice for the people’s choice. Do you remember Dominic Strauss-Kahn? Strauss-Kahn is the Frenchman who was head of the IMF and, according to polls, the likely next president of France. He said something that sounded too favorable toward the Greek people. This concerned powerful banking interests who worried that he might get in the way of their plunder of Greece, Portugal, …

Obama Administration Approved Gulf Fracking During Deepwater Horizon Disaster

by Mike Ludwig, for Truth-Out Hydraulic fracturing (or “fracking”) technology has been widely used to maximize oil-and-gas production in the Gulf of Mexico in recent years, and the government allows offshore drillers to dump fracking chemicals mixed with wastewater directly into the Gulf, according to documents released to Truthout and the Center for Biological Diversity under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). From 2010 to October 2014, the Obama administration approved more than 1,500 permit applications for offshore drilling plans that included fracking at hundreds of wells across the Gulf of Mexico, according to the documents. An unknown number of permit applications have yet to be released, so the scope of offshore fracking in the Gulf is likely larger. During this time regulators issued more than 300 “categorical exclusions” to exempt drilling plans that included fracking from complex environmental reviews. The use of categorical exclusions has been under heavy scrutiny since 2010, when the media learned that BP’s drilling plan for the Deepwater Horizon rig was categorically excluded from review in the months before a …
